If the guy looked like a homeless man that was taking a nap on the sidewalk, I could see not bothering to call the cops. But seeing as how people who saw the pictures responded on twitter that he should've called 911, there were probably enough clues to say the man was in trouble. His excuse of "what if like i went over n he like tried doin some dodgy shit to me?" is bullshit though. If you are worried about a guy trying some dodgy shit, you dont get out of your car and take his picture. You sit in your car and call 911.

Nothing illegal here. If I'm correct, WA state law requires you to report a traffic accident within 4 days of it occurring. Law in Edinburgh might be different, but not that different.

A while back, I was in the gym showers when someone collapsed in the stall across from me. I heard a thump, and I turned to see a skinny old Asian dude lying on the shower flower floor. He was on his side in a fetal position, butt naked, his ass up in the air and facing me. Instead of helping him or alerting anyone, I looked away and blocked that image out of my head.

I was trying to scrub myself down quickly when someone saw the fetal dude, and yelled 'Call 911' and started yelling for help. The fetal guy got up after he was yelled at and shaken a little, but not before riling up all the staff. People were running in and out of the locker room, while many others were looking at the commotion. I noticed this when I was shuffling out of the gym as quickly as I could.

The worse part is, the guy who collapsed was across from me. The guy who started calling for help had to walk past my stall to look into his. I simply refused to make eye contact.

I like the idea of helping people. I just didn't want to help that guy.

In almost every country in the world you're legally required to render at least a minimum of assistance to a person in this type of distress. Not reporting a dented fender is not the same as not reporting a dying person, not morally or legally.

In this type of distress... are you talking about the England guy or the fetal guy? They could both have been sleeping, or at least their behavior could be interpreted as such.

The traffic law is when a vehicle strikes a car or a person. As in, you can legally hit a guy then not report it for up to 4 days. It's one of those weird, legal-is-not-moral laws.

But I disagree with your point. I've never been told that you're legally required to report an injury or provide assistance to others in distress. It's a dick move to act like that, but it's a legal dick move.

When we choose to make decisions that only benefit ourselves, we should be judged by them. The bad thing is I recognized that he needed help, but I didn't want to be the one to help him. Let someone else be that guy. It's a shitty attitude when you put your own lesser needs above other people's greater needs, but it happens.

Put in that situation again, I'd probably do the same thing. Maybe I'd shower faster so I got out before anyone noticed.

Honestly, if you only know one law in your state, this is a good one to know. Some states require you to assist, some don't, and in some I don't think there is statutory immunity for any harm you do while assisting (so you could actually get sued for trying to save someone's life).
