I feel bad for you if you can't do two things at once Jamel. My job is dependent on holding a conversation with somebody, maintaining accuracy with what I say, while also multitasking on a computer through half a dozen different programs. Playing Madden on zero volume listening to a fantasy football podcast isn't really something that demands a lot of effort, or at least for the sake of this discussion, it's no more or less effort than playing the game and listening to music (or listening to the game itself, for that matter).

Do you find it hard to make out any of the words the commentators are saying while watching a basketball game? Is it like the Charlie Brown thing where you only hear "wah wah wah" over the background crowd chatter? Or is it pretty easy to listen to them converse while also watching the game?

Watching is a passive activity. Doesn't require thought or quick reflexes. Sorry, come up with a better example. I do appreciate the pity from a guy that works on some call in line though. Maybe I can posses your life skills some day and move to India.

You talk down about my job, but yet you're claiming to be physically incapable of doing it. Sorry bud, I just don't believe you. You know full well you could easily play a video game and listen to a podcast, absorbing most of what they say, but you're just being argumentative to try and prove a point you don't really care about. It's not rocket science, using your hands or body in some capacity while listening to somebody speak is a pretty basic ability for an adult to have.

Not really. It's pretty much a fact that women are better than men at multitasking so there's obviously some sort of a spectrum when it comes to stuff like this. I have no idea how my friends read and study while listening to music, I just can't concentrate.

I buy your running example, and you can probably churn butter, paint a wall or masterbate while focusing on a podcast too. But other acts you described (playing sports games) are more involved than just "using your hands." Unless you are just mashing buttons. If I were to listen to a podcast while playing a video game and I would of finished the podcast on retaining maybe 2% of what they said or lost terribly on the game.

Maybe I've.conditioned myself to do this better than most people than, but it feeds into my point that eventually society would adapt to a music-less life (just the same as they would a television-less life).

Music takes this pretty easily for me. No TV? Read a book. Go see a play. Listen to a radio show.... people have done that for centuries (not the radio part, but you get my drift). Listening to music and playing music... I can't really think of an adequate substitute.
