HS alma mater sports success?
So... my HS is in the State football semis for the third year in a row. And are ranked 15th in the Nation apparently. Toledo Whitmer in Ohio. Looks like, oddly, they're only 4th ranked in the state despite being 15th nationwide. Dunno what national ranking is used (I'm on maxpreps.com)... but yeah. Man, my high school was barely mediocre in our own conference when I went there.
Anybody else go to a HS that is now or was a power in any sports?

Re: HS alma mater sports success?
My HS football team lost every game when I was a senior. Lost to a team who hasn't won in 3 years, and lost the rivalry game.
Won state champs in baseball like 10 years before I was there. So yes.

Re: HS alma mater sports success?
Usually pretty good at football. Not sure if ever been ranked nationally, but we went undefeated last year and won state. We usually get 2-3 guys go to a BCS team every year, but they generally end up getting kicked off the team or failing to qualify academically and never even get on the team. lol

Re: HS alma mater sports success?
When I went to my HS we are on that level. The whole lose most of the games in the league thing. We sucked. Now... I know its been almost 10 years, so that is a significant chunk of time, but man... from suck to national power? Crazy.

Re: HS alma mater sports success?
Weird that you post this now. My HS just lost in the State Semi Finals. They were HORRIBLE for I'd say a good 50 years. My senior year was probably the high watermark and I think they only won one playoff game.
In the Semi they went in for a TD with 35 seconds left. The QB was limping, and they were playing a team with 40 straight wins and 3 consecutive state titles. They kicked the XP to tie, then lost in OT. Should have gone for 2! We always had a good soccer program, which is what I played. Looks like we just produced the state player of the year. Also fell 1 game short of going to State, which is the same as my senior year. Lost to my ex-girlfriend's alma mater

Sports Success?
Not too much. Juju Stone plays for the Denver Nuggets. Ben Howland went there as well. We're more known for entertainers. Katy Perry, Chip Foose among others.

Re: HS alma mater sports success?
The high school I graduated from dominates the state in wrestling and has a good track/cross-country program. They're only mediocre in basketball, though, which is what I played.

My high school has picked up a few state b-ball titles in my lifetime, at least one baseball state title (which is what i played, though it was the year before I got there). We won both a boys and girls state soccer title when I was there so I assume that is one of our better sports... volleyball program was strong when I went there and I think has remained that way.
Football team usually sucks... a few exceptions but no state titles. Alum that have played in the NBA in my lifetime: Tony Smith, Devin Harris, Jerry Smith (just a cup of coffee with the Nets).

Re: HS alma mater sports success?
My high school for years tolerated an ephebophile that couldn't teach because he had the girl's soccer team at the top of the annual state rankings (seriously, they started him teaching math, which I got him relieved of, they moved him to American history, where the department head threw him out for being an idiot, from there they moved him to English, with the same result as history, and from there they made him a guidance counselor). They had a brief six year run at the top of the girl's basketball ladder because former WNBAer Brianne Stepherson played there.

Re: HS alma mater sports success?
No, it was a regional high school for grades 7-12 (though we did have a boarding program for disadvantaged basketball players...errr...athletes...errr...students, yeah, yeah, that's the ticket, students, from around the country). So there were just varsity and JV teams. Brianne just made the varsity in 7th grade and carried the team on her back all that time.
