Re: What is your religion?

An atheist in practice, probably an agnostic in the sense that when it comes down to it I'm a philosophical skeptic. Non-religious is mostly how I think about it.

Atheist.

But go ahead and believe what you want, I'm not going to argue it with you. As long as you don't knock on my door and try talking to me for a long time. Just give me the leaflet and **** off.

Re: What is your religion?

Christian. I grew up in a Christian familiy, but i realize I was really more of an agnostic until recently. But now I believe pretty strongly in Christianity. I use to think that religion was the problem and that seems like a pretty common opinion today, but now I think that the problem is more with individuals and with people's individual hearts than with an actual body of religion, (although we cant ignore corruption wherever we may find it, it is not the primary issue). Man is inherently selfish and puts himself first. If I understand correctly, Christianity teaches that the primary issue with man is sin, and the only way man can be put right is, not through works, but with a personal relationship to God, through believing in Jesus Christ.

Isn't thinking that all problems can be solved by a personal relationship inherently selfish?

Just saw a new study that said prayers don't help sick people recover. That was always the thing religious people hung their hat on.

Yeah, i think you may be right in some kind of way. It appears that "All is vainity", like it states in the Book of Ecclesiasties. And i think the problem we face is that man wasn't designed to serve himself, he was designed to glorify God and to have a relationship with God, and to trust God. As a Christian, i'm saying I recognize there is problem and i humbly accept the revelation given by Jesus Christ. I recieve the free gift of God, of Himself, to redeem me from sin. My favorite author put it like this:

"To be agnostic means that I recognize that there is more than I know, and that if I am ever to know more it must be by revelation." .... "A Christian is an avowed agnostic intellectually; his attitude is, "I have reached the limit of my knowledge, and I humbly accept the revelation of God given by Jesus Christ.""

I recognize that i dont understand everything, that "there is more than i know"... So I put my faith in Jesus and trust the authority of the Bible as the right way to live.

You may say "that is selfish to accept that free gift", but I put my faith in Jesus that when he says i can recieve the gift of salvation, somehow he is right, and i put my faith in that... That through his death I am made right before God. If I "obey his commands" I can have "the peace of God that surpasses all understanding" and all the things the Bible says i can have if I remain and trust in Christ.

If there's anyone that we should be praying to it's Joe Pesci.
