Big surprise someone named Tom Pain talks about terrifying and enslaving mankind.

You're right and wrong at the same time. It's definitely become pretty much a priority to go to college if you want any hopes of having a good job now a days, but there pretty much really is barely any decent jobs out there these days that can get you a good job without some kind of education outside of high school, but people are wrong with the idea that college is the only answer. It clearly isn't, since there are numerous other options that can also get you good jobs. I simply chose the four year route because I chose not to just learn computer science things but rather go into the real world with a knowledgeable mind (and I also heard nothing but bad things about tech schools).

Almost anyone can go and join a trade out of highschool and instantly join the middle class without going into debt. Most will end up in the top 10% of earners in the country if they stay in the industry.

Jobs where you actually have to work are beneath most Americans these days though. Even though most electricians, plumbers, welders, etc are better at math through their training than most kids taking business admin and other worthless college courses.

This post of course is in no way a reflection of yourself. Just the "College or bust!" mentality going on in the country.

I agree with R Star. If you want to join a business, College is necessary to move up. If you want to be your own boss, well, you probably have the qualifications that you're looking for already. If you're afraid of the real world, go get a job at a bar and party your face off. I agree with you that college is overrated unless it is sharpened for a purpose. It's like those guys at the gym who work out all the time but aren't fast, can't win a fight, and suck at even helping you move.

People who decide, "Hey, I want to be an architect. I'm going to apply to colleges and universities and work my ass off." are people who should be in post secondary.

People who look up the college with the best party scene and pick their courses after that shouldn't.

There are 5 rules of college. 1. Know what you want out of it. 2. if you don't know what you want, get top marks (A- and above) in all courses to keep options open and to know for sure if you like it or not. 3. Have a job throughout. 4. Only party on the weekends. 5. Don't major in electives or something that requires no passion.

This actually you don't necessarily need. It's actually recommended you don't work while you're in college, due to the fact that it can make it harder for you to put in time towards your classes.

Hahaha. The Christians, who believe in everything in the bible literally, even the stuff that contradicts, would gather around the flag and pray to it as a false idol. That's so awesome.

Best R-Star post ever. Everyone who thinks more degrees help, just google around to law grad or PhD message boards and see how that worked out for a lot of people. And many of those went to GOOD schools, they didn't get their jackoff degree from the University of Phoenix.

Let's see, you spend 4 years without a job and expect a company to give you responsibility. Yeah, enjoy your minimum wage job when you graduate.

The top 3 law schools in this country graduate more than 1500 lawyers a year!

Exactly. Then go to Columbia, NYU, and Chicago, and they probably graduate even more. Are you going to YHSCCN? No? You're at Northern Illinois? Don't go to law school. Don't get a PhD. And DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES OTHER THAN "MY COMPANY IS PAYING FOR IT AND WILL PROMOTE ME" GET ANY MASTERS DEGREE.

Again, I make an exception for good schools. I know two people who are getting Masters of Public Policies right now (no no no no no no), but one is in the military and at NYU, and the other worked in DC for 5 years and is at U.Chicago. Those are fine because there's a clear path.

Re: Children, gunman dead in Conn. elementary school shooting

I only worked two summers in college (graduated in 3 years so I took classes one summer) and a little over a winter break and it didn't hurt me in the job search at all.

Agree with everything except #3. As long as you do something related to #1 during the summer (internship or volunteer work, depending on what #1 is) or have some kind of co-op experience for credit, it doesn't matter if you work. You only have room on a resume for 1-2 bullet points related to work experience, and even just 3 months of experience in your field trumps 4 years of jack-off service jobs. Most employers really don't care if you managed the night shift at Little Caesar's.

You'd be surprised at how much employers don't give a shit at all about how much job's you've had in the past.
