In many cases a summer internship or an extracurricular actually IS going to have some substance and is going to play much better in an interview than unrelated work experience because it is more likely to give you common ground with an interviewer.

The interview process can be just as tedious and awkward for employers as it is for prospective employees. It doesn't matter if you worked for 3 months or 3 years if what you did can spark a 10-15 minute conversation in an interview.

But like I said, I'm presuming we are talking about fields that involve some kind of quantitative rigor. If you are getting one of those nebulous "business" degrees, then yeah, you probably should show as much experience in business as possible.
Agreed. I didn't have a job in college. I played basketball. Being good at that took a lot more work ethic than flopping burgers.

The burgers thing just shows you're willing to work in a team atmosphere in a less than ideal situation.

Obviously if you finish your degree or what have you with good grades and have an actual understanding of what your field is when you're interviewed they aren't going to say "Damn. You're completely qualified and we'd love to have you, but not having Burger King on your resume is kind of a deal breaker."

The point was it helps to get your foot in the door to be able to show you've had other long term work, but obviously not a deal breaker, especially if you're the perfect candidate for the job.

That can be demonstrated by joining a team or club or some type of group in college... Except maybe a frat.

Meh, I don't agree and many employers have come out and said the fast food/service industry is a good breeding ground for them because the lazy ones who don't want to work never last more than a few months job to job.

But I already feel bad derailing a thread about the death of 20+ kids and adults as much as I have so I'll just leave it at that.

The lowest of the low.
Considering many stories we hear about some gunman turning the gun on himself after shooting up a school or some other place (often planning to do so all along), I'm shocked that not one person has sacrificed themselves to take some of these scumbags out. You know, people who actually deserve it.

The lowest of the low.
I think the counter movement in this situation will far outnumber whatever they can muster.

If this was happening anywhere near where I lived I'd go down there, hopefully getting in a few shots on these self righteous, brainwashed idiots.

I almost wish I had flown down to join the barricade. People like this are the lowest of the low and should be looked at as no better than the killer. You can have your own personal beliefs, but to try to turn this massacre into something about your own movement just days after it happened is sickening.

Nah don't sweat it, I take the full blame for this one, seeing as to how I practically started the discussion and took it off topic completely.

btw, just another thing about more gun control, this just happened couple days ago

China School Attack: Knife-Wielding Man Injures 22 Kids, 1 Adult Outside Primary School

A knife-wielding man injured 22 children and one adult outside a primary school in central China as students were arriving for classes Friday, police said, the latest in a series of periodic rampage attacks at Chinese schools and kindergartens.

The attack in the Henan province village of Chengping happened shortly before 8 a.m., said a police officer from Guangshan county, where the village is located.

The attacker, 36-year-old villager Min Yingjun, is now in police custody, said the officer, who declined to give her name, as is customary among Chinese civil servants.

A Guangshan county hospital administrator said the man first attacked an elderly woman, then students, before being subdued by security guards who have been posted across China following a spate of school attacks in recent years. He said there were no deaths among the nine students admitted, although two badly injured children had been transferred to better-equipped hospitals outside the county.
Just saying. There are crazy people everywhere, just most of them can't get themselves a gun.

I don't think I've heard of anyone with Aspergers doing something like this, although I don't understand the disorder very well and I would be very skeptical of any person who said they did.

Did someone mention the hoax against a church this morning in that city? (Too lazy to actually look) Someone threatened to kill everyone in a large church so it had to be cleared out.

Ugh.

Well........I don't know that China's hit the ideal middle ground when it comes to individual rights and liberties, either.

Sorry, but you aren't going to convince me that the 20 hours of practice I put into basketball in college didn't go as far with employers as a part time job stuffing fries in a bag.
