Re: Children, gunman dead in Conn. elementary school shooting

There's a lot of backlash on reddit directed at the media right now. Especially after the New York Post publishing the guy hit by a train on the front page, people are really angry at the way the news is delivered in this country at the moment. There's a video with a forensic psychiatrist saying the best method is to stop treating the killers like rock stars and making the story a big event: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...FNTGWv4#t=107s

Even if the guy's name and facebook or twitter gets out it's not the same as putting them on t.v. and turning them into a celebrity. I'm sure there's probably a country out there that doesn't allow the media to act this way.

Nothing you can do though. People won't quit watching.

Hell, I consider myself a decent guy and I'll still keep watching the news.

I'm a vendor. I sell food and beverages in schools. 90% of them I just waltz in. I'm not a delivery driver or anything so I don't wear a uniform.

As it should be. I know schools that have public pools, public gyms, etc. A school is far too much of a hub to try to scan and ID every person who comes near it.

As nice as it may sound, its not realistic.

I'm well aware of that. It wouldn't solve everything, but I guarantee it would cut back back on these tragic incidents.

A background check/3-day waiting period won't stop most of these guys.

I don't know man. I used to think the same, but now I highly doubt it.

These aren't people who just snap one day and go on a rampage. Not the majority of these events anyways.

These are lengthy, thought out plans that are meticulously drawn up over weeks and months. These are guys who would be ok waiting for their guns and ammo to show up. Maybe it gives them more time to case the school. Find the perfect corner to snipe children from where they're protected from any adult getting behind them without them seeing.

.... they're really ****ed up people man. But they blend right in. Half the time you see people who knew them interviewed afterwards, you'll hear stuff like "Kept to themselves" or "Quirky". But not someone you'd think was a mass murderer.

I'm all for stricter gun laws. I just don't think it would do much to help these situations is all.

And if stricter gun laws saved one school from a mass shooting, it would be worth it. As I said before, I know it's not going to solve everything.

Said he was going to kill himself and that it would make the news... posted a picture that looks like it was from the columbine massacre. A few posters said they didn't believe him basically, and he said to watch the news at 9am and that he lived in Connecticut.

At least according to what Floods posted. I took it down because the picture was just too graphic.

And none of them were smart enough to report him to someone? Unbelievable.

I don't know man. If some random poster on here told me he was going to kill himself, what do you do?

If it was a certain unnamed posters on here, yea, I'd probably try to see where he's from and notify someone. But that's only because you'd think with his posting history he might actually do it.

It's the dark side of the internet. It's like reddit's unfiltered origin. Everything there is offensive. Look at it long enough, your humor becomes their humor. They're the reason why when you type into a Google search "Can I get AIDS" it will autocomplete with "from swimming with black people".

They are the Anonymous that the news somehow thinks is a hacker group when it's just a bunch of random people with DOS programs.

If this is known, shouldn't it be monitored?

I mean, you can't govern and monitor the whole internet like some people seem to want. Its not possible. But if you have a known site that is frequented by emotionally unbalanced people, shouldn't you at least pay attention if you're the government?

I don't even know what reddit is either. When I was young and the internet was first coming around, someone showed me rotten.com, and I clicked on one that was pictures of a wife who had her husband murdered, dismembered, and even had pictures of his decapitated head with his cut off dick in his mouth. I never returned after that. Pretty sure she got caught by putting the camera into Walmart to have it developed.

I don't know how people get off seeing disgusting shit like that. You can't be ok in the head if you do as far as I'm concerned.
