I was at Chichen Itza a few weeks ago for my honeymoon. The guides, who happened to be present day Mayans, said the only thing the calendar predicted was the alignment of the planets. They said the doomsday theories were spread by Nat Geo and were ridiculous. The Mayans had thousands of calendars and scrolls that contained numerous calendars, but they were all destroyed by the Spanish when they arrived except for 4.

I had a paulina porizkova calendar when I was 18, it ended on December 31st - I didnt go around claiming that she therefore predicted that the world would end on december 31st
but I did continue to enjoy the pictures well into the following year |
