V is for Vagina Release

Good news

1 on the Billboard INDIE chart.
25 on the Billboard top 200

No Major label budget.
No Major label $300,000 Bus bench/poster/billboard marketing campaign.
No overpriced full page ad in every silly magazine ever printed
No Promotions Dept Payola hand jobs.
No shove it down your throat anything.

just 100% street level, viral, word of mouth support.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.

By the way... Some Friends of mine in the Garment industry sent out a flyer advertising the release. They received dozens of Complaints from Mothers who were offended by the word Vagina. Ironic, isn't it? Without a vagina they wouldn't BE mothers.
I'm quite surprised this did so well. Not bad for a little side project.

Yeah... I read that one ... it was a good read. Kind of get a glimpse into how weird it is for Maynard for all these people thinking he is some kind of messiah.

Doesn't sound too good for the future of tool and their performances though when he is talking about the mental wear of singing those old songs on a nightly basis.

And apparently APC is completely dead.

I would hate that so much. Because of Tool, APC is one of the most underrated bands in music today. People just seem to forget about them. A Perfect Circle is genuinely a great band.

No doubt. They were very good. Thirteenth Step is in my 12 disc changer in the car right now. I love that CD.

I think Maynard is really only into it enough to devote himself to Tool. Sounds like this wine deal is really bigtime for him. It's a shame.

fyi - Billy Howerdel is going to have a solo deal coming out sometime soon I think. First track is on his myspace. Sounds very APC-ish but unfortunately without Maynard's vocals it just isn't as good.

(New) Tool Album Behind Schedule

Tool appear to have completed more than half their new album recordings, but remain behind schedule.

In March, drummer Danny Carey said the band would hit the studio in June or July, and guessed it would be complete within four months. Their last album "10,000 Days" was released in 2006, making this the biggest gap between album releases in their history.

The new album update was posted by their webmaster, who is also a friend of the band a heard the new material while driving with Carey (via Noisecreep):
"I heard a lot of new Tool music (sans [singer] Maynard James Keenan)," he said. "So, what did I think? Dare I say that it sounded like... Tool (some of it reminiscent to earlier Tool stuff, with other parts pushing the envelope), and I assume that it will sound even more like Tool once the vocal melodies, etc. have been added."

The webmaster can't say for sure how far into the recording they are. "If I had to GUESS, I would say more than half way (and keep in mind that in the past, at least, the writing went faster once the first few more complex songs were finished)."

Back in March, Danny Carey added other details about the new album. He said bassist Justin Chancellor has been particularly prolific, and they're pushing themselves even harder to write to mind-bending time signatures. "It's kind of confusing sometimes, especially with some the riffs those guys come up with too - like in 13 or 21 or whatever, we have one in 17 that we’re doing now," he said.

Tool will play at Ozzfest Japan alongside Black Sabbath, Deftones, Slipknot, Slash and Stone Sour.

Re: Tool - 10,000 Days

7 yrs in 2013 is pretty ridiculous. Maynard's off doing Puscifer, APC, wine, rest are doing their little projects too, while writing, and they did like 3-4 separate random tours after 10,000 days tour was over for few yrs. I'd rather they take the time to make the record. But I guess in these times, touring is the biggest way to make money.
