Re: Tool - 10,000 Days

Picked this up last night, but still haven't gotten a full feel for the whole album. Jambi kicks huge *** though, and I'm liking The Pot.

In response to the Lateralus conversation going on, its my favourite, from beginning to Triad. Aenima is kick ***, but there is something that keeps me from completely loving it.

I don't know if its because I haven't been a fan of Tool as long as most of the rest of you, but these songs sound Tool to me (on 10 000 days). I hear the 'lack of explosion' arguement and agree, but I've also been a fan of how Tool does ummmm.... not quiet, but the long, deep sounds that keep wanting you to explore the music. And this album does have that, and they still play that perfectly. I guess I didn't have the same thing in mind when I pictured this album as some of you.

I'm going to concetrate on listening right now. 10 000 days sounds soooo goood.

Re: Tool - 10,000 Days

Alrite, so the CD is growing on me, as expected. Especially 1-4. But, now imagine if these songs did have that great Tool explosion. Get what I'm saying? It's not as if each song doesn't prepare you for it. You expect that explosion. My friend explained it nicely last nite. "It's like they rub your clit a little bit, but they won't finish you off."

As for Lateralus, I consider it the best album of the past quarter century. So, there's that.

Re: Tool - 10,000 Days

^ LOL, that's classic. Yeah, I like the build ups too as mmmmpower said and I also don't think need that explosion in like every song. Even though, to me there are quite a few explosions in it. But there also are subtle climaxes of some of the songs (no pun intended with what your friend said dark knight)..like in 10,000 Days in middle area, and among the other songs that I enjoy. Maybe you'll get those explosions seeing em live? It probably sounds harder then too. I wouldn't change anything though except take out 2 segues give us another song . But this is still up there with their other stuff, may be better than most too.

I've really only been listening to Tool for maybe 5-6 months at the most. Other than that I had only heard the radio songs and a few others here and there. Now I am having a hard time listening to much else.

As far as the album ... I think Vicarious has that explosion right at the end. And Jambi just rocks throughout and so does Rosetta Stoned. In 10,000 Days I think the "explosion" is actually in the lyrics and not the music. Like the "10,000 Days in the fire is long enough" and the lines about "your pillar ascending" or whatever it is. Those are incredibly powerful lyrics when taking into account their meaning to Maynard.

Also, on the surface it didn't seem like it to me but apparently some people over at toolnavy are discovering some of the real meanings behind these songs, especially now that some of the pictures are giving away hints. There is a lot of Lateralus type "meaning" behind these songs. Of course, you could probably spend hours researching those things.

yeah, I agree about the explosions and the lyrical ones. that part you mentioned for 10,000 Days track. It starts up before that actual line for me and the sound after continuing on. Right in Two also has awesome musical explosion in it near the end as well.

Adam did say this record is the logical progression from Lateralus. And about Lateralus type meanings. I don't know if you saw my post there toolnavy in the "Album theme -- there is one..... " thread. Even though Lateralus is my favorite record, I said about how "to me Lateralus' lyrics are waaaay more direct than 10,000 Days are. I'm not just saying that either. I mean the titles for Lateralus give it away as does the not so vague words and lines within the songs. Schism, The Grudge, The Patient, Ticks and Leeches, and so forth are mostly straight forward. There are some things like spirituality of it wasn't so straight forward. But these now remind me of Aenima's where it took more effort..and hints to know what they mean. There is just more to it. Maybe that's just me."

Yeah, I do remember reading that. I haven't really posted there but some of the interpretations and views on things are really interesting to read. But there are a ton of "OGT" *******s on that site.

I really wish I had time to read up on some of the other stuff though. Sounds very interesting.

I sure hope you remember. Cuz I posted it like an hr ago lol.

Yeah, I told you about those idiots lol. And I've made like 5 posts there in the last 2 weeks. 107 in total and I've been a member since 03. Reading the interpretations are interesting. I only looked at a few songs. I'm not trying to look too deep into all or most as much yet. I haven't really read all the lyrics yet either.

Re: Tool - 10,000 Days

This is probably the best interview with Tool that I have read so far about the new album. They almost say everything they've been saying but there's some more to it. Thought I'd post it here for anyone interested.

Re: Tool - 10,000 Days

First week sales numbers should be coming out in the next day or two. Early estimates are 600k+, better than Lateralus. I think it will end up much higher.

Re: Tool - 10,000 Days

Of course the CD gets better every time I listen to it, but Wings Pt. 2 has become my favorite song on the CD. Especially after seeing the lyrics. I originally thought it was, "10,000 days and the fire is logging out," or something like that. Then, I read and saw that it was, "10,000 days in the fire is long enough," and knowing what the song is about, I get chills every time I hear it.

I always listen to part 1 before I do 2. It's pretty much one song so it's always a fast 17 minutes for me haha. But it's in the mix to be my favorite Tool song of all time battling with Pu****(Ænima version),46 and 2, The Grudge, Lateralus, and H. Always been hard to choose a top one. I keep waivering haha. But it also needs a little time before I say if it is or not.

:Edit- Man anyone on myspace, if you go to your videos and then search for others, they have a **** load of Live Tool ones. From coachella (new songs as well), various others from the Lateralus tours and I think even Aenima tours. Some really awesome ones too. Thought maybe someone would be interested haha.

I got into Tool with Vicarious, but Right in Two and Wings for Marie Pt. 2 are amazing songs. They're so long, so good, and seem to only last 3 minutes.
