What do I think? Times without number I have called Nas one of the greatest poets of our time. That's what I think.

i don't know, i think if nas wrote poems he would be one of the greatest poets of our time. but he seems to write songs, not poems. it's difficult for me to consider someone a poet when they work within the medium of music. the point that some of the greats are indeed some of the greatest 'writers' of all time is 100% correct imho.

If you strip the beats off the song, and it was just acapella, would it not be considered spoken word poetry?

FWIW you are talking to the same guy who said Ghostface should have been Iron Man & Nas is a great screenplay writer.

there are beats & the words are part of a song, is the thing. so ya that's a pretty gigantic IF that you are throwing out there. if rappers chose to work w/in the medium of spoken word poetry and not w/in the medium of rap music i would certainly w/out question consider them to be poets.

LOL dont be silly, I never said Ghostface should have been Ironman, there was a link that said Favreau was going to have him in it, actually I believe his scene was deleted, damn dude you are just going to be spitting some inaccurate stuff on here like that? Also I said Nas would make a great screenwriter. How the heck does that count as Nas IS a great screen writer when dude has never written a screen play? The guy is arguably the best story teller in the game. You do realize you can have multiple screenwriters on one project right?

Anyhoo, people like Saul Williams blur the lines between rap and poetry.
