Your Top Ten songs..

Did we do one of these yet?

I know there used to be an albums post that was stickied.

This should be interesting.

Re: Your Top Ten songs..

It's easier to write my top ten than it is to have my top ten in order, so for now I'll just put them out there in no order and then think up the order later.

Microphone Fiend - Eric B. and Rakim
Put It On - Big L
Liquid Swords - GZA
Fight the Power - Public Enemy
What Goes Around - Nas
I Wonder - Kanye West
C.R.E.A.M. - Wu-Tang Clan
3030 - Deltron 3030
The Truth - Handsome Boy Modeling School
Bury Me a G - Tupac Shakur

By the way, this is a list where my rule was to limit it to one song per artist, even though you didn't mention that rule. Otherwise I'd have too many Pac, Nas, and probably Ye songs in the list, and it would look a bit limited. Even so, it's a pretty accurate list of my favorite rap songs.

I'll try to put them in order later. That's going to be harder, although I'm sure about my number one.

Re: Your Top Ten songs..

No order:

Beans - What your life like pt. 2
Pac - To Live and Die in LA
Nas - The World is Yours
Nas/Rae/Ghost - Verbal Intercourse mainly cause of Nas verse
Big - Long Kiss Goodnight/Kick in the Door (two joints where he flexed the hardest IMO)
Sean Price - Heartburn
Eminem - Stan
Ghostface - Fish (Classic New York shit)
Big Krit - Something
Rae - Ice Cream

Or something like that. I'll figure it out. I have way too many favorites anyway. **** me for not getting Today was a good day on here.

Alright...

1.) Bury Me a G - 2pac
2.) Liquid Swords - GZA
3.) Microphone Fiend - Rakim
4.) Fight the Power - Public Enemy
5.) C.R.E.A.M. - Wu-Tang
6.) 3030 - Deltron 3030
7.) The Truth - Handsome Boy Modeling School
8.) I Wonder - Kanye West
9.) What Goes Around - Nas
10) Put It On - Big L

My top five was tough because at one point, every single song in my top five was my favorite rap song outside of Fight the Power (but it was always in the top ten).

Bury Me a G is the only one that was easy to list because it's been my favorite rap song for a while now. For one, I think it's the quintessential Tupac song. Like if a novice came to me and asked, "Show me a Tupac song that can sum up his career", it would be my choice (although that would be tough since Pac was always two different people his whole career). But also, it is, for me, the quintessential gangster rap song and sums up 90's hip hop for me.

Re: Your Top Ten songs..

1.)Geto Boys - Mind Playing Tricks On Me
2.)OutKast - Spottieottiedopaliscious
3.)Nas - Life's a Bitch
4.)A Tribe Called Quest - Check the Rhyme
5.)Clipse - Grindin'
6.)T.I. - What You Know
7.)Kanye West - Flashing Lights
8.)Eminem - Lose Yourself
9.)Elzhi - Motown 25
10.)Beastie Boys - Sabotage

Purposefully tried to include a few songs that I was actually there for, lol.

The first five will always be in my Top Ten, but the bottom five are always fluctuating. Hard to narrow that shit done.

Re: Your Top Ten songs..

I'm an old dude, so most of my picks will date to the 90s and earlier. And I'm going to include videos, not to annoy (though that's a welcome side benefit) but because the Beastie Boys' Sabotage just isn't the same without the video. I hated putting two songs from one group in there, but those two Geto Boys' tracks are two of my favourite songs in any genre.

Breathe - Fabolous
D'Evils - Jay
Dr Carter - Lil Wayne

Re: Your Top Ten songs..

10) Tupac- Pain (when I think of Tupac, this song defines him in my mind)
9) Pete Rock & CL Smooth- T.R.O.Y. (most beautiful rap song ever)
8) Outkast- ATLiens (one of the first somewhat abstract rap songs I heard)
7) Common- Making a Name For Ourselves (really because of Canibus... that last verse just punches you in the face)
6) Dre- Ain't Nothin But a G Thang (Classic beat, hook... the anthem for an entire summer)
5) Raekwon- Ice Cream (was calling every girl by their "flavor" in junior high)
4) Ice Cube- Today Was a Good Day (the pinnacle of story telling rap)
3) Tribe Called Quest- Electric Relaxation (probably the easiest song for me to memorize ever)
2) Luniz- I Got 5 On It (see what I wrote about song number 6 and double it for this track)
1) Wu- Da Mystery of Chessboxin (my favorite Wu song ever, and every general on this track shines)
