Re: Kendrick Lamar - Good Kid, Mad City
I like how he ties things together into one running story, as he did with Section.80.

Best "debut" album since....
Capital Punishment by Big Pun. This album just flows well, it's perfectly sequenced and Kendrick paints such vivid pictures with his lyrics, without sounding monotonous, preachy or boring. I'm a Kendrick stan, but this is some heat. |

Re: Kendrick Lamar - Good Kid, Mad City
I have to say that so far I'm a little dissapointed. The hooks are unbearably bad, like I feel some of the songs "Bitch/Vibe", "Poetic Justice", "Real" and "Good Kid" would be better off without a hook. There are some bad beats here too, "Backstreet freestyle" "Master Splinters Daughter" and "MAAD city" make it hard to pay attention to Kendrick...

Yeah, so far this album seems to be polarizing its listeners. Personally, I'm loving it, but a lotta people I've talked to have echoed what you said.

Re: Kendrick Lamar - Good Kid, Mad City
Polarizing? He's getting universal acclaim across the board. The hooks are my least favourite part of the album but not to the point where I would call them weak...The guys set to push 250k first week with no massive singles, the album has managed to appeal to both young and old hip hop heads. Its the most cohesive and addictive debut album that I have heard in a very long time.
