Mumford and Sons' "Babel"

Anyone pick this one up?

Doesn't sound like a Sophmore Slump so far. Reviews have been pretty positive as well.

I've never heard a Mumford and Sons song. But everyone raves about them. Post a song for me to listen to. What's good?

Not bad. Perhaps I'll give them more of a listen.

Re: Mumford and Sons' "Babel"

Is the rest of the album better than the single they released? It sounds like... well.. the exact same stuff. It really looks like they took the same tunes, and added new lyrics. Hope the rest of the album is better. I like a little growth and change, not a full scale genre shift or sound change - but just something new.

I've listened through 3x and this is exactly where I am at. Some of the intro's automatically link my mind back to other songs from SNM, ha.

Luckily I could listen to 'Sigh No More' all day, so 'Babel' will do me just fine.

Just downloaded both of their albums. Let's see what the hype is about.

It's similar in style, not a Hail Mary however which I think is why this is still a successful album. Too often the second album blows because artists get too far away from what people like about them.

I've always been a proponent of a Live M&S Album especially after I heard them live (doing it again in November) and I think this opens the avenue to either that or a completely new direction in their third album.

This album sold 400,000+ albums in it's first week. Had no idea these guys were this popular.

Ever since the Grammys in 2011 where they performed live, they got invited to Coachella, and became instant sensations. I got to see them the day after Coachella at the Santa Barbara bowl which only holds 4500 and it probably was packed to 6ish. They are just insanely good live.

Even before that. They were the talk of the weekend at Bonnaroo 2010. I didn't get a chance to see them because I had no idea who the hell they were, but they were probably the most discussed act Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. Fortunately I had the chance to see them at Bonnaroo 2011, and of course they put on a great show. They went from performing in a tent one year to having probably a 60,000 person audience the next, and that might be cutting them short.

I think the first time I heard them on the radio was in November of 2010 so that sounds about right.

Re: Mumford and Sons' "Babel"

Quote:
Mumford & Sons' sophomore album, "Babel," opens atop the list with 600,000 sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. As reported yesterday, it marks the biggest debut this year, the largest sales week for RED Distribution and the second-biggest frame for an independently distributed album. And, with 420,000 downloads sold, the set tallies the second-largest week for a digital album. It's surpassed only by the bow of Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" in 2011, when it launched with 662,000 downloads.

Mumford & Sons also shattered the Spotify record for streams from an album in a single week.
