Most of the GMs voted for 2012 rosters and also most of them wants snake draft so this is probably what we are going to do.

I would definitely do snake retro, but I'm out if it's 2012 rosters. Latest year I would be up for starting in is 2004.

I actually plan on doing this somewhere down the line. The issue for me at the moment is that my new promotion takes a ton of time.

It depends... I like both, but in the end what determines is the grades. So you can call a player Larry bird or you can call him Adiso Massala but in the end you'll use him according to his grades.

While I'm in complete agreement with you on this point, I also enjoy the nostalgia. It just makes it more fun.
