FRSL : A New Beginning for the Raptors - Basketball Forum : Professional and College Basketball Forums

Raptors fans finally have a reason to be excited. After years of being the laughing stock of the FRSL, Toronto has managed to field a team that many fans believe could make a push for home court advantage for the playoffs.

Rajon Rondo is the main reason the City of Toronto has it's collective hopes up this year. Rondo (who is arguably the best defensive PG in the FRSL) will be able to lock down all opposing guards and completely alter teams strategies. But Rondo will not be alone on the defensive or offensive side of the ball.

At SG Iman Shumpert is one of the best lock down defenders in the league. Shumpert already has the second highest steal rating in the league. Pairing Shumpert up with Rondo at the 1 and 2 spots is a dangerous mix for opposing teams. Both players have the ability to lock opposing players down, both have a knack for forcing costly turnovers and both have great court vision to distribute the ball for easy buckets. And these abilities matched up with the deadly offensive weapons that the Raptors have will cause defensive nightmares for any coach.

At SF Thaddeus Young is a player that does it all. Thadd has the ability to drop 20+ points per game. This goes along with Thadd being one of the best rebounders at SF in the FRSL, and above average Defensive game. Pairing Thadd up with Shumpert and Rondo equals loads of trouble for any back court offensively. These 3 all have an uncanning ability to force a very high rate of turnovers.

At PF Amare Stoudemire is strickly here for Offense. And with Rondos' ability to manipulate the defense and find the open man, Amare will be able to put up a lot of points.

At C the Raptors are very excited to try out the Rookie from Lithuania. JV already a shown a great ability on the offensive end, and the strength to crash the boards. The Raptors just hope that JV can make a smooth transition from Europe to the FRSL.

And coming off the bench the Raptors took on the highly paid Joe Johnson. But the Raptors believe that Johnson will be the best scorer off the bench on the FRSL. And this will give the Raps that extra push if one of the other offensive starters are having an off night shooting the ball. Teams around the league must be nervous seeing Rondo come down the court and having Johnson/Amare/Young to give the ball to.

I don't know how I feel about this team. They will be pretty much locked in with this roster for awhile, I would think. JJ and Amare are long term deals. These are all players that seem pretty valuable in a vacuum, but it remains to be seen how they will be able to work together.
