Post RWE's 2013 Mock Draft v2.1 (First Round)

First of all, check out my positional power rankings.

Second, I have taken a broader look at this class and changed my mock up again. I've also fixed the errors I had with that Raptors pick going from the Celtics to the Magic and that Clippers pick winding up with the Thunder. Oh and I finally finished the first round of my mock. Second round sleepers to follow.

1) Wolves - PF Charles Barkley - Hunerman might still have the most obvious pick we ever see in FRSL. As I said in my last mock, positional needs do not matter when the BPA is clear. Boozer and Sanders are decent but expendable players on the Wolves. Barkley has true hall-of-fame potential.

2) Kings - SG Rolando Blackman - Even after considering the Euro players and reevaluating the American guys, I still think Tim has to go with Blackman. I still don't see a center-eligible guy on the board worthy of a selection this early. The BPA is still a deadly scorer who would fit absolutely perfectly alongside Iggy and Blake.

3) 76ers - SF/PF Oscar Schmidt - This is the first change in my mock. Nooby could really use a wing player who could put up at least 20 points a game, and Schmidt just led the Italian league in scoring at 18 years of age. He's solid on the boards, in the post, and in the passing lanes. He might be the best all-around player in this draft.

4) Colonels - SF/PF Gar Heard - scdn's team has nice young pieces in place at PG and on the wings. He has also made it clear that he doesn't like Vaught (who I had in this position on my previous mock). While Monroe could really use a great defender by his side to round out that line-up, I don't see him passing up Heard in this spot. He will get you some solid rebounding numbers and some steals immediately, but he could also develop into a nice offensive player some time down the road.

5) Hawks - SF/SG James Posey - jck needs to plug a defensive wing player between Wall and Melo on the perimeter. He can't take a chucker like Mobley or Lamar with Melo already on his roster (unless he plans on trading one of them). The good news, though, is that the best overall defensive wing might just fall to him at this spot in the draft. Posey probably won't ever light up the scoreboard, but he will guard the opponent's best wing so that Melo can do his thing.

6) Thunder (from the Clippers) - PG Greg Anthony - Goulet had so little faith in Jason Terry this season that he didn't even really use a back-up PG. That slot is really the only hole in OKC's rotation. It doesn't hurt that Anthony would also be the BPA at this juncture if the draft plays out like is has so far in this mock. There's no question he will be lethal defensively. In addition to that defense, though, Greg's ast/to ratio should be relatively high and he should be able to consistently knock down the top-of-the-key 3-point shot. Good value at the 6th spot.

7) Magic - PF/C Terry Cummings - Roturn will probably just go best available with this pick. Cummings isn't really much of a shot-blocker and his rebounding will need to improve, but he's a stout interior defender who can put up points in the right system.

8) Nets - SG Cuttino Mobley - More than anything else, Jay seems to need a second scorer to pair with Rose. Mobley has the potential to provide that type of production along with some solid passing skills for a wing player. He might just wind up being a starter by the end of the season.

9) Spurs - SG/PG Bo Lamar - Fresh off a franchise move, MemphisX has one glaring problem... his leading scorer this season was Gordon Hayward at under 16 PPG. I don't think he can avoid taking the best scorer left on the board at this spot. Lamar won't be a starter this year, but he will be a great scoring option off the bench.

10) Blazers - PG/SG/SF Theodoros Papaloukas - Kevin wasn't able to generate consistent offense this season, and I believe it was because of his lack of ball movement. The best pass-first PG in this draft class seems like a good fit for this team. Also, Papa's positional versatility will give him a big bench role when he's not playing the point with the starters.

11) Knicks - C Manute Bol - As proven by his current playoff run, Gary doesn't need a versatile all-around player. His only relative weakness is interior shot-blocking. This is a quick way to solve that problem. He won't get much else out of Bol, but KLove's defensive mistakes will officially be covered up.

12) Spurs (from the Sonics) - PF/SF Nadav Henefeld - After going with a scorer with his first selection, I can definitely see MemphisX snatching up a solid defender/rebounder like Henefeld with his second first round pick. He's a little under-sized to play PF in the FRSL, but I can see the Spurs finding good value with him as their 6th or 7th man covering both forward slots.

13) Pistons - PF Loy Vaught - If I'm KJ, I'm going BPA at this position. I know Vaught doesn't exactly fill a need, but who doesn't need an efficient offensive player who can rebound?

14) Lakers - SG/PG Rumeal Robinson - Kenneth doesn't really need any position more than any other at this spot in the draft. Whatever player is taken here would be hard-pressed to crack his rotation this coming season. Robinson is the guy left on the board that I could see competing for a spot with Aaron Brooks as the back-up combo guard. He's a bit of a volume shooter who is also going to be a solid assist and steals man.

15) Bulls - PG/SG Dave Twardzik - Assuming Dornado loses Keith Bogans this offseason, he will need a guard to take his spot who can defend the perimeter and provide some steals and corner threes to his bench mob. Twardzik could very well be that 8th man for this Bulls team.

16) Magic (originally from the Raptors) - C/PF Kevin Kunnert - I see KK as a very similar prospect to Loy Vaught (who went 3 picks ahead of him in this mock). They can both rebound and play efficient offense. KK is a slightly better shot-blocker, while Vaught is probably a better fundamental defender. Roturn will potentially be able to turn Cummings and Kunnert into his bench front court of the future. Who knows? One of them might even develop into a quality starter down the road.

17) Celtics - SG/PG Todd Day - LGC has a bad salary cap situation and he could easily find himself without a back-up PG. He's actively shopping Andre Miller and he won't be able to offer DJ much in free agency because of how close he is to the hard cap. Even though a couple PG prospects went back-to-back shortly ahead of him in this mock, he does have the luxury of getting a decent player here. I think he should select the best PG available with the 17th pick if Miller is off his team. Day is a volume 3-pt shooter who should have decent a decent turnover rating. He also plays the passing lanes pretty well.

18) Bucks - PF Kurt Rambis - In this scenario, kreutz would be landing a pretty decent value at the 18th slot. Rambis will immediately be one of the hardest working front court players in FRSL. His hustle will likely show up on the offensive glass. The only thing that worries me about Rambis is the potential for a high foul rating.

19) Thunder - SG Tony Dumas - Goulet's entire front court is locked up for the foreseeable future and he has his PG position pretty well figured out after the Greg Anthony selection at 6. The only potential hole on his roster (replacing Belinelli's minutes if he leaves in free agency) would be filled perfectly by the BPA at this position. Dumas will take care of the basketball and dish out high assists for a SG. If he can curtail his aggressive, yet not totally efficient scoring, Goulet could have himself a gem at this late draft position that fits perfectly with the quality defender he got earlier in this mock.

20) Raptors (from the Pacers) - SG/SF Charlie Scott - Allrim has a very interesting decision at the 20th spot. If he loses Millsap to free agency, he will likely have to start Pierce. That would leave him a big hole to fill in the bench scoring department. Scott would fill that role very nicely. He is arguably the best scorer and passer still available at this point in the mock. If Allrim manages to hold on to Millsap, an argument could be made for Donyell Marshall or for Billy Owens as a better fit for Toronto at this spot.

21) Heat - SF/SG Eddie Johnson - Smath has his top 8 guys all returning under contract this season. There really isn't much of a way I can see for a rookie to crack the Heat rotation this season. I think Smath should just take the BPA at this spot and give him some spot minutes off the bench to see if he can extract any value. Johnson is a pure scorer. He won't contribute much on the defensive end of the floor, but he won't turn it over much, either.

22) Jazz - PF/C Derrick McKey - My team is going to be weak on the bench in the front court behind JV and The Brow this coming season... unless this low usage, dirty work guy falls into my lap. McKey isn't going to score the basketball at a high clip, but he'll defend 2 positions well and fill his bench role more than adequately.

23) Grizzlies - SF/PF Billy Owens - This is a simple BPA pick for orgen. His line-up has no holes, and he has no big free agents coming off his roster. Owens can defend a little, rebound a little, and shoot a good percentage. Not a bad option at the 23rd overall pick.

24) Nuggets - PF/SF Donyell Marshall - Congrats Aero for winning the first FRSL reboot championship! The Champs obviously don't have many issues on their roster. Marshall isn't great at any one particular skill, but he's pretty decent at almost everything. He could be a gap filler off the bench a season or two down the line for Denver.

Other players who might make a rotation in this league:
Kevin Duckworth
Tony Battie
Lloyd Neal
Rodney Buford
Derrick Chievous
Harold Minor

The pure awesomeness of this draft process really makes me want to trade my players for picks. Too bad I can't stand to lose games.

Yeah, I must say this draft format is crazy nice. Add to that the scouting process and it should get really interesting.

I put a few more picks up. You guys will have to forgive the incompleteness of the mock. I'm just working on it whenever I get time.

I wanted to get through my own pick, at least. I'll hopefully finish the mock before today's final playoff SIM.

The 30 guys I now have listed are basically the same (although not in the same order) as my Top 30 Overall Big Board for this draft.

Judging by this Anthony and Heard went way late in the actual draft. Good job by whoever got them.
