Draft Rumors: Dunleavy to the Warriors

Mike Dunleavy is in the NBA draft for good. The next question is this: Is he into the Warriors?

Dunleavy's decision seems to be some sort of watershed moment in Golden State. Forget for a second whether Dunleavy is really worth all of this fuss. If the Warriors are really that interested, you know the answer to that.

For months the speculation persisted that Dunleavy wasn't really deciding whether he wanted to play in the NBA or stay in college. Instead, he was deciding whether he wanted to be a Warrior. So now that he's decided to stay in the draft, the San Francisco Chronicle's David Steele seems to think that everything is OK with the Warriors. Forget about the money, the risk of injury or a terrible senior season. The Warriors pushed Dunleavy to the NBA.

Who knows what GM Garry St. Jean or Antawn Jamison said to Dunleavy last Thursday. I wasn't there, but my guess is it went something like this.

St. Jean: "Mike, the odds are we can't keep screwing up forever. Clifford Rozier, Joe Smith, Todd Fuller, Adonal Foyle, Antawn (oops sorry Antawn) . . . "

Jamison: "That's all right Garry, you're outta here anyway. What position do you play, Mike?"

St. Jean: "I think if you look at our track record you'll rest easier. If you're any good, we'll trade you away to a contender. If you struggle, we'll throw the max at you."

Jamison: "Point guard? Center? Shooting guard?"

St. Jean: "If we hired your dad as coach . . .you would never, um, how do I put this, try to wrap your hands around his neck?"

Jamison: "I heard you can pass. You're going to throw me the ball, right?"

St. Jean: "You like Chris Mullin? How do you feel about flat tops?"

Jamison: "Just pass me the ball and stay away from the small power forward position and we're cool, all right?"

St. Jean: "So what do you say Mike?"

Dunleavy's staying in the draft, but Warriors fans may not want to pat themselves on the back just yet.

Several lottery general managers were breathing a quiet sigh of relief late Tuesday as news began to trickle in that two potential lottery picks, Dunleavy and Curtis Borchardt, intended to stay in the draft.

If Dunleavy gets picked...the Warriors won't get any better. They'll get worse, but at least they might be able to get LeBron James next year.

First of all, that post was hilarious. I can easily see that convo taking place.
Second, Caffeineman....How do you figure we get worse by adding a guy who can shoot and pass and knows how to play and WIN? I am not so sure I agree with you on that one. I'm not sold completely either but the Warriors will get better with him on the court. No doubt.

I think Dunleavy will mess up the locker room chemistry. And where do we play him? At small forward? Looks like we are gonna move Jamison to the four. I just don't see Dunleavy fitting in with the Warriors.

Unfortunately for the W's, the chemistry sucks already. Fortson, Hughes, MOOKIE, always complaining, whining. The D jr would make the chemistry better if anything. Jamison would move to 4 and we'll just pray he works on his d this summer.

fury, stop fooling yourself into thinking Dunleavy is gonna be good for you guys. I see that you have bought into the crap that this guy is a legitimate top player in this draft. This guy is average at best and I don't see where all the hype is coming from about his game. I have watched this guy play with Duke for the past 3yrs and I'm starting to think maybe I was watching another Mike Dunleavy, because I didn't catch all the hype that's being associated with his game. Just think about fury, it's the same as a car dealer trying to convince you that a Volkswagon performs like Porsche.

Indeed. I've watched Duke the past few years, and he isn't as great as most people think. Gooden and Butler are much more dominant; and the Warriors need a dominant player.

Stop fooling myself? I'm a Warriors fan. Fools and Warriors go hand in hand. I cant do anything else but fool myself. The W's have given me no choice. No playoffs, no good head coach, no progress. I have been forced to create my own warrior dream world in order to avoid deep depression.

My next trade? Fortson for pick and garbage
let Hughes & Mookie and any other overpaid whiners walk.
Dump the Dampdog for whatever you can get.

5 days and counting.....

I wish you guys luck and hopefully, within the next 3-5 years we both can get it together and become the two teams that battles it out with each other to determine who comes out of the West.
