Hello fellow Warrior fans, keeping in mind the recent comments from Jay Williams and the actions of Gilbert Arenas made me think if a move may be necessary. I know the Warriors are winning and changing the chemistry is bad, but I have this feeling that, regardless of the statements that Arenas said about wanting to stay w/ the Warriors, he might just ending up leaving for a team that promises him the minutes he wants and of course pay him more. Jay Williams is unhappy in Chicago and misses the "family" feel that he had in Duke. Therefore, take a look at this trade and let me know what you guys think:
Chicago trades: PG Jay Williams (9.2 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 5.3 apg in 28.8 minutes)
C Eddy Curry (6.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 0.4 apg in 14.4 minutes)
Chicago receives: PG Gilbert Arenas (16.4 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 6.3 apg in 34.9 minutes)
SF Chris Mills (4.5 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 0.9 apg in 10.8 minutes)
Golden State trades: PG Gilbert Arenas (16.4 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 6.3 apg in 34.9 minutes)
SF Chris Mills (4.5 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 0.9 apg in 10.8 minutes)
Golden State receives: PG Jay Williams (9.2 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 5.3 apg in 42 games)
C Eddy Curry (6.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 0.4 apg in 48 games)
Golden State would also give a future no. 1 pick, but not this year's pick and maybe the rights to Logan. (If possible)
My feeling on bringing Jay Williams to Golden State is to reunite him w/ Dunleavy Jr. (his roommate at Duke) and hopefully making feel more at home. Jay Williams has shows signs of being a good player, but I think that the way Chicago is handling their players is effecting his game. Also E.Curry has fallen out of favor w/ Krause and is looking to move him. Chis Mills contract ends next year, so he'll have more cap room to play around with. Being that Curry is still young, I don't mind rolling the dice on him and seeing what happens. His contract ends in 3 years anyway.
Also, the is word that the Warriors have approached the Pacers about Austin Croshere.
Golden State trades: PG Jiri Welsch (2.2 ppg, 0.9 rpg, 0.9 apg in 8.4 minutes)
PF Danny Fortson (3.2 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 0.7 apg in 12.5 minutes)
Golden State receives: PF Austin Croshere (4.8 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 1.0 apg in 12.5 minutes)
Warriors would give up a future no. 2 pick.
Indiana trades: PF Austin Croshere (4.8 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 1.0 apg in 12.5 minutes)
Indiana receives: PG Jiri Welsch (2.2 ppg, 0.9 rpg, 0.9 apg in 22 games)
PF Danny Fortson (3.2 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 0.7 apg in 16 games)
Indiana would give up a no. 1 pick. (Indiana's payroll will skyrocket resigning their free agents this year, so they'll be more inclined to give up a 1st round guaranteed contract just like Philly did w/ the pick that landed Welsch).
After the trades, here is the end result:
Jay Williams/E.Boykins
Jason Richardson/Bob Sura
Antawn Jamison/Mike Dunleavy Jr.
Troy Murphy/Austin Croshere
Erick Dampier/Adonal Foyle/Eddie Curry
This lineup will insure the minutes for everyone. There is no log jam at any position. Mussleman will have a nice rotation here and has the ability to motivate guys like Curry, Croshere, and Williams. Richardson has fallen off a bit from his rookie year, but his outside shooting IS getting better. If he evolves into a Finley type player, I'll take it. Just as long he doesn’t turn into a Rider or Harold Minor and gets lost in the system.
Finally when the expansion draft comes, the Warriors can protect up to 8 players:
Jamison
Williams
Richardson
Dunleavy
Murphy
Boykins
Foyle
Curry
If the Charlotte team take Sura, Dampier, or Croshere it will just free up major cap room for the Warriors to resign existing players or pick a free agent. I think this could work. Just takes some imagination on St. Jean's part to come up with an attractive trade for the Bulls to take.
