Pros:Taft's activity when he was in the game was impressive (3 blocks)--especially for a guy who hardly played in the preseason (or, for that matter, the summer league). I figured he'd be a Keon Clark/John Salley type player coming into the league.
I also was impressed by the poise of Miles. 5 assists...wow!
Cons: OBVIOUSLY, Baron's hamstring. Jesus Christ...can the guy just have no problems for ONE year? I know he was o.k. his first few years in the league, but man...
Another con...7 TOs Mike D? 3-10 from the field? I found myself hoping for Pietrus in the 1st quarter. You got your extention...now sac up and play!
My thoughts:
- The Warriors could definitely use Diogu in the lineup, or any post player. When the W's were cold and unable to move the ball, they could only really take jump shots, run the break a bit, and hope to get back into the groove. A post player can change the half-court set.
- I agree with bruindre on Taft, but I feel Taft has a post game we didn't see. He definitely is a bit out of shape though. Did a nice job defensively against Zaza.
- Harrington ate up anyone who was guarding him in the 1st quarter, especially Murphy. Murphy has the same problem as last year: defense.
- I saw Dunleavy make a total of about 2 good plays. The outlet pass and the curl/drive to the basket. Not a good performance.
- Pietrus looked good with his athleticism and jump shot, but to me, he has a difficult time adjusting if the defense anticipates his move. He certainly has the physical ability to create his own shot, but at the moment, he isn't there mentally. Long way to go, much better off when others create a lane/shot for him, which is probably why he plays better with Baron.
- I wasn't all that impressed with Aaron Miles. I liked him in college and I feel he has a chance, but I didn't really notice those 5 assists in the game. He wasn't a real playmaker, but did a good job taking care of the ball and what not.
Gonna give it up to 'The Fish'. I was on his heel since he signed with the Warriors but he had as good a game as anyone last night. He wasn't trying to do too much offensively and carrying himself like a SG most of the time, which is a perfect role for him instead of running a team.
Defensively, when he came in during that 3rd quarter spurt, the Warriors' defensive rotations were so much more better than when the lumbering Murphy was in.

I think Jim Barnett said it in the 2nd half of last night's telecast--When Pietrus focuses on defense, the rest of his game comes to him efortlessly. I though that was an astute--and correct--observation (as I think Barnett has a lot of good input during telecasts). The question is (and it's an eternal question for young players in the NBA) how do we get Pietrus to buy into focusing on defense? Talents there...consistency isn't.

I really don't know what more you'd want out of a backup PG other than someone who could bring the ball up court and not turn it over. I know he had 2 turnovers, but a 2.5 assist-to-turnover ratio for a backup PG? I'd be happy with that, ESPECIALLY if Fisher is going to assume more of a 2-guard role when he's in the game, as MightyReds2020 observed.

Funny thing...last year, Fisher was the one player on last year's squad I'd vote "Most Likely to give my 30-year old *** an aneurism". His play frustrated me to no end. Now, as he's acting more of a 2 guard, FOR ONE GAME he at least looked good.
I was also HYPED on the defensive rotations to begin the 2nd half of the game. I was going to edit my comments this morning on it, but figured I had to earn a paycheck instead.
Oh...and the early favorite for this year's "Most Likely to give my 31-year old *** an aneurism"...Mike D.
