Believe! Love of Dubs seizes the whole Bay

A good read I found from Inside Bay Area.com:

Believe! Love of Dubs seizes the whole Bay

Quote:
We've seen Super Bowls and half of us got no satisfaction; Raiders fans couldn't enjoy those 49ers championships any more than 49ers fans could take pride in the Raiders championships. We've seen World Series champions, too, but only on one side of the bay, leaving San Francisco cold. Our last NBA champion, the 1975 Warriors, came at a time when typewriters were common and Gerald Ford was president.

What we're seeing now, though, is a uniquely magnificent phenomenon, an downtrodden squad, undiluted by divided fan loyalties, rising up and finding its glory.

The Warriors, a simple basketball team, might be the most unifying local force I've seen in the 16 years I've been fortunate enough to steal a few minutes of your day. Their postseason run has been our most galvanizing sports experience ever, far exceeding the Bay Bridge World Series — which had wide appeal but opposing fan bases.

The Dubs, on the other hand, alienate no one. They play a game that has evolved over the past quarter century into a global passion. They play it not only well but also with a panache and pizzazz that is, if one is not careful, downright intoxicating.

The result? The coming together of all that we are in the Bay Area — old and young, man and woman, straight and gay, liberal and conservative, all sizes and shapes and shades.

This party extends a warm welcome to all, inviting everyone to join in the hugging and high-fiving and lap-sitting aboard the biggest bandwagon in Bay Area sports history.

The bandwagon, I mean, aircraft carrier, was enormous. I found myself a little angry at all the bandwagoners that only paid attention to the NBA because the Warriors were doing well and the Warriors were a Bay Area team.

Whatever, I suppose it comes with the territory.
