Q. Do you come back with some disappointment or frustration that the contract situation didn't work out the way you wanted?
A. If there was some, I'm over that. I have to do what I tell my players to do: Don't sign a deal you're not happy with, and if you do sign it, then everyone's assuming you're happy with it.
Q. But in retrospect, didn't you sign a deal the year before you weren't happy with?
A. Yes, I did. I did that because I wanted to coach and so I signed a deal I wasn't happy with. But I thought I had to prove to them that I could do what I said I would do: make the playoffs, get the most out of the team, that sort of thing.
Q. Was it difficult, at this stage of your career, that you felt like you still had to prove things to people?
A. I did miss a year, and out of sight out of mind. I understand how all that works. At least the ownership stepped up and gave me an opportunity to come back.
Q. If the Warriors have another good season and they pick up the option, is there a chance you will hold out again?
A. No. My value, for me when I evaluate myself, is making the salary that I'm making right now.
I think I'm a $5 million coach. I have been for 10 years.
