Most impressive rookie so far - Jiri Welsch
After seeing Jiri Welsch for the first time, I was extremely impressed. He will be starting soon for the Warriors, there is no way they can keep him on the bench.
He just makes the Warriors so much better, with his shooting, passing, defense and leadership on the floor.
What a steal at #16 and my darkhorse for ROY.
Gooden looks real good too and the Griz need him on the floor.

Hmmm,,
So let me get this strainght,,,
Welsh comes in and scores 11 points in one gam,e while Drew Gooden averages 20 points and 15 rebounds over 2 games and Jiri is "the most impressive rookie"?
Something doesn't quite add up here,,

Keep an eye on Nene Hilario. Saw him scrimmage on tues night. He got 15 and 5 and showed lots of hustle and desire on 'D'. Nugs play Dallas tonight and I'm anxious to see how he plays against Dirk and Raef. He might foul out due to his aggressiveness, I'm afraid.

Gooden numbers are expected
We expect that kind of production from Gooden, Also, Pau is out so Gooden will get more shots and rebound opportunities. Gooden got his numbers by playing a full game.
Welsch played only 16 minutes and the Warriors pulled away while he played. He played great D, handling the ball, provided assists and shot the ball extremely well.
I just made in observation that the Warriors looked much better when he played. If he continues that type of production, the Warriors will be forced to start him..It is not like the Warriors are
an elite team.
Anyways Welsch looks better than a #16 pick and should be a major contributor for the Warriors. He is not even on the radar as being a ROY candidate, which really surprises me.

Goodens numbers are impressive regardless of the situation, he has been the "most impressive" rookie so far without question.
That said I agree with you that Welsch looks like a steal at 16 and will really help GS.
So far so good for this years rookie crop, should be good competition for the ROY this year.

Gooden played over 40 minutes in that game. You have to put those numbers into context. Still, very impressive.
Hard to imagine Gooden averaging 40 mpg this year, though, don't you think? 30 mpg will be a major accomplishment. I'm expecting somewhere in the mid-twenties, unless Stromile Swift gets injured or ends up in the doghouse somehow.
Don't see how Jiri Welsch can start in Golden State. My understanding is that Eric Musselman has moved Antawn Jamison back over to SF. Jason Richardson is, of course, pencilled in as the starting SG (correct?). Troy Murphy has emerged as the starter at PF--this guy is the REAL sleeper on this team.
I expect Welsch and Mike Dunleavy to both be getting right around 20 mpg for at least the first half of the season. Hopefully, before the trade deadline, the Warriors can find a taker for Danny Fortson. I wouldn't be surprised to see that long-rumored Knicks trade (Fortson and filler for Charlie Ward, or Fortson for Travis Knight and filler) finally happen sometime over the next several weeks.

Looks Murphy is the starting PF
Anton at SF
Murphy at PF with some center
Richarson at SG
Center?
PG? Sura seems to have the inside track since he had a good preseason camp. But I see Welsch, Sura, Arenas, logon sharing PG duties.
I also see Welsch playing SF, SG and PG. He should get 25 mins per game at leasts. The loser in minutes here will be Mike D. and Dan Fortson looks like.

"Slowmile" Swift's already in the Memphis doghouse. Jerry West has been actively trying to trade him since day one.
Expect Gooden to eventually move into that team's starting SF or PF spot, depending on what they do with Gasol.

I've heard a lot positive things about Welsch myself I haven't seen him play, but the scouts say that he has tremendous athletic skills and has a hard work ethic towards his game.
As for...Mr. GOOD-EN-PLENTY, this guy is just about to make his own LOUD introduction into the NBA. He's tough and he has that aggression to play in the paint. I see him leading the Grizz in boards and in FG%.....He'll also make a strong run at ROY
Keep a close eye out for him & Caron to really make a strong impact for their teams

I really can't see either Gooden and especally Welsh getting enough minutes to compete for ROY.
Guys like JWill & Butler can get all the run they want if they are playing at ROY levels.

i think its a tad bit early to be figuring out who is going to be the rookie of the year.i agree welsch is good, and listening to the warriors vs sonics game(i must be bored)the other night the announcers went on how he takes the ball to the hoop and finds people, the warriors have some young talent and i agree on murphy having a breakthrough season but they arent too good in the middle and they will have to address that somewhere down the road.they may have the best young talent in the league.

Gooden has been by far the most impressive rookie in summer league and now preseason play.. he has been putting up veteran numbers. I didnt think Gooden would be very good in the NBA, but it looks like Memphis will have no choice but to play him.

Gooden is very good, just like I thought he would. He has been the most impressive rookie by far, and IMO will win ROY

Caron Butler, Drew Gooden and Jay Williams are probably the top three right now. 2 out of the 3 are in the perfect place to be one of the best players on their respective teams while Gooden has just been flat out impressive even though let's admit it the pre-season means nothing more or less then nothing, zip, nada.
Just wait and see, Jiri Welsch has got nothing on them. The talent is what is going to be effective in the long run, guys. And all 3 of those guys have the best fit out of all the rookies.

Agreed summer and even preseason really means nothing, but it is the same preseason that most other rookies and even other second year NBA players, and even veterans struggle to do well at all... At the same time Gooden regularly put up numbers like 20-10 just about every game..
obviously he is ahead of a lot of the other rookies..
