Question Are todays prep centers too small?

That's just a question, not a statement. Because I think NBA-centers are usually 7'0 (today even PF are 7') or above. And if you look at the top HS centers of 2003, there's almost no one 7'.
  • Kendrick Perkins - 6'10"
  • James Lang - 6'11"
  • Chris Taft - 6'10"
  • David Padgett - 6'10"
  • Darryl Watkins - 6'11"
  • Martin Iti - 6'11"
  • Major Wingate - 6'10"
Only Shagari Alleyne and Brian Butch are sevenfooters.

Keep in mind that some of these guys might not play center in college or the pros. When you have a 6'10 guy in high school, most teams have no choice but to put them at center. Besides, these guys still have room to grow considering they are only seniors in high school.

1.) What he said.
2.) The game has been continuously changing where most centers are now in that 6'10" - 6'11" range, or will be moving to this. Many teams are wanting a mobile center to go with thier uptempo offenses.
3.) People just aren't breedin' em tall and those tall ones aren't playing basketball.

These kids are only 18-19 years old so they still have 2-3 years to finish growing.

Yeah, I know. Even Darius Miles had to play center in HS. But Miles was a projected wing-forward, and all guys I listed are (with few exceptions) projected centers. What should be if they don't grow?

That's hard for me to say b/c I have never seen them play, and I don't know how they are built. All of those guys could play center in college and maybe the pros depending on how much they weigh.
