Four weeks after taking over the reigns of the Cleveland State men's basketball program, Head Coach Mike Garland has signed his first two recruits, one of whom is a Canadian who was originally headed to the Atlantic-10.
6-7 220 lbs. combo forward Patrick Tatham who attends Chinguacousy Secondary School in Brampton Ontario, has signed with Cleveland State University. Tatham chose CSU after fielding offers from Richmond, Central Michigan and the University of Buffalo. Tatham had originally signed with St. Bonaventure during the early signing period, but was released from his NLI when the Bonnies made a coaching change.
This season Tatham averaged 21 points and 9 rebounds per game. He has been a member of the Canadian Junior National Basketball Team since 2002 and is a leading candidate to earn "Mr. Basketball" honors in Canada this year. Patrick will join fellow Canadian Majak Kou in the Horizon League. Kou, who is the top ranked wing in Canada this year signed during the early period with Loyola-Chicago.
Canadian talent scout Lorne Clark gave Hoopmasters.com the following description of Tatham. "He will be able to come in and make a great impact at CSU. Patrick has a great build and plays very aggressive and above the rim. He can play both forward spots, although his power, strength and athleticism make him a great 4-man."
Also inking with CSU is Victor Morris, a 6-0 175 lbs. PG from Inkster H.S., in Inkster, Michigan. Morris averaged 21.3 points, 7.0 assists and 4.5 steals last season. He was an All-State and All-Metro West selection in addition to being a Michigan basketball coaches all-star selection.
Butler, Central Michigan and Detroit were also recruiting Morris, who is described as an intelligent floor leader with excellent ball handling skills and shooting abilities.
