Role Players Expectations
Okay we know what to expect from Yao and Tracy. I thought we should have place to only discuss the role players on our team not named Battier or Wells. If Tracy and Yao are "Superman and Batman", then Shane and Bonzi are "Green Lantern and Green Arrow". This is a forum to discuss the following and your hopes or expectations for them and their play:
Under Guranateed Contracts
Chuck Hayes
Steve Novak
Luther Head
Kirk Synder
Juwan Howard
Billy Spanoulis
Dke Mutombo
John Lucas III
Non-guranteed Contracts (may or may not make the final 15, 12 + 3IR)
Casey Jacobsen
Scott Padgett
Matt Harayazs
Kelenna Azuibuke
Injured indefinitely: Bob Sura, Injured to return: Ryan Bowen
My personal hope is that Chuck can continue his growth to becoming our very own Charles Oakley. Also I'd like to see "Billy" become that legit backup to Rafer, his playmaking is there, his shooting just needs work.
In favor of Novak getting lots of minutes with Yao and Battier hopefully, while Tmac rests. His rebounding was fine, but post-passing needs improvement.
I feel like if these things can happen along with a major-injury free regular season, we will be highly competitive deep into the playoffs.

Re: Role Players Expectations
I hope Snyder improves this year, so next season he can replace Bonzi in the lineup.

Re: Role Players Expectations
Chuck Hayes - exceeded expectations since the first day he put on our uniform. Would be a great bonus to us if he can consistently back up Yao and work his way into our rotation.
Steve Novak - T-mac says he's got the best shooting touch he's ever seen, so lets hope he's right!
Luther Head - The guy everyone's kinda forgotten about, esp. with all the need acquistions that can play the 2. I expect him to be more consistent this year and come off the bench with lots of energy.
ok will type the rest later...

Re: Role Players Expectations
Chuck Hayes- I am expecting great things from Hayes. I love the energy he shows when he is on the floor. I am not sure how he will do as a possible back-up center, but I am excited to see.
Steve Novak- As almost everyone knows, this guy can shoot! He'll have a field day with all the open shots he is going to get. That is if JVG lets him play significant minutes.
Luther Head- I have seen great things from him. I just hope that now that he is in his second year, that he feels more confident in himself and his abilities.
Kirk Synder- He adds speed and athleticism, but I wonder about his shot. Hopefully he has worked on it. I think he can turn into a great defender.
Juwan Howard- Is it wrong that I don't expect much from this guy? I am happy as long as he is able to hit his open jump shots.
Billy Spanoulis- I won't base my judgment on how he played last time. I think he can take the back-up point guard job from JL3. He just needs some time to acclimate himself.
Dke Mutombo- I want to see Mutumbo of old... not old Mutumbo. I hope father time has not caught up with him. I see him being used sparingly.
John Lucas III- Have not seen much from him, therefore I don't have much to say. Maybe he'll make third string PG.
I don't think Casey Jacobsen, Matt Harayazs and Kelenna Azuibuke will make the team. With Novak in the team, it does not make much sense to keep Padgett, he becomes expendable. And as to Ryan Bowen... I hope we can cut him too. I hope Sura is able to come back, but it seems quite doubtful.

Re: Role Players Expectations
My expectations are high on Chuck Hayes this season. What he lacks in size he more than makes up for in rebounding and spunk around the basket. Hopefully he will only improve once given decent playing time.

Re: Role Players Expectations
Shane Battier - I expect Battier to be wearing a "C" badge very soon the way he's getting buttered up by JVG. Battier is the vocal leader we've needed since losing Jon Barry and Bobby Sura. I dont expect any spectacular numbers from Battier but his presense will be very apparent, IMO.
Bonzi Wells - I dont doubt that Bonzi will string together another nice statistical season. I just hope that stats isnt the only thing on his mind. I get the sense that the Rockets have yet to recognize Bonzi as a teammate. It seems people have already forgotten him as a key addition in the offseason and players like Novak are getting more hype than Bonzi. I expect Bonzi to be used much as Keith Bogans was late last season.
KillBill - I think Billy has a high ceiling. He's a tough player that needs to develop a feel for his teammates. Once he can develop a feel, I expect him to be the offensive spark plug that Mike James was a couple season ago. I think the defense will have a hard time guarding Billy on the move, he just needs to improve his shot to set up the dribble penetration. I dont expect Billy to be a consistent contributor until after the all-star break.
Luther Head - Luther was the second best athlete in his draft. If he works on his ball-handling, I think he can be similar to Jason Terry with better defense and athleticism.
JLIII - Still trying to hard. JLIII needs to control his speed. I think he will be utilized much like Moochie Norris a couple seasons ago.
Juwan Howard - Our primary back-up at C. I don't see Howard getting traded because of his utility as a PF/C off the bench. He will be a solid bench option.
Dikembe Mutombo - I dont expect anything notable out of Deke. He can still change shots but I think he is as much of a sore point on offense as he is a bright spot on defense.
Rafer Alston - Big year for Skip. Skip has a good asst/to ratio. With Mac handling the ball at times and Skip having so many options to dish to, his asst/to ratio should change radically although I expect Skip to break 7 apg this season. I hope everything Ive heard about Skips shooting is true.
Kirk Snyder - I hope Snyder gets alot of PT this season. He's looked like a strong all-around player with all the tools to be our version of Gerald Wallace. Probably the most fit on our squad.
Steve Novak - I think Novak has what it takes to eventually become a starter. He has a terrific shot and makes quick decisions when passing the ball. He moves great away from the ball and really gives TMac and Co a great option to kick the ball to. His defense isn't miserable from what I can tell. Not quite Kyle Korver but close enough for me.
Chuck Hayes - Still not sold that Hayes can break more than 14 mins a game. More of an Edjuardo Najera type. I do appreciate his energy and rebounding.
