Yao is outtie as MVP candidate?

Alright...How come everyone is saying Yao is out of MVP candidacy? Only because he is injured? Is this a rule in the NBA? Or is everyone thinking that he won't return to his regular dominating presence when he comes back?

Thoughts?

Re: Yao is outtie as MVP candidate?

i think you have to play a minimum no. of games to be eligible for mvp

anyways on the nba.com race to the mvp, yao dropped from 3rd to 10th and will prob keep dropping

I dont remember any player winning the MVP playing in less than 60 games, like yao will likely do.

And remember, the MVP award usually goes to a top-5 team (with some exceptions). I doubt the rockets finish with that kind of record having to play without yao.

Its a shame, but thats how it works in the nba.

Re: Yao is outtie as MVP candidate?

It is not a number of games thing. It is about a players entire body of work over the season. Even if Yao comes back and domninates like he has been, the people who vote for MVP are not going to vote for him based on what he could've done over a full season.

They will vote for one of the other guys who did it for the whole year. Sucks but, that is the way it is. Yao will get his within the next 2 or 3 years.

Re: Yao is outtie as MVP candidate?

Yao still has a chance for Final MVP right? I am sure that Yao wants that one more than regular season MVP.
