Re: Rockets team FT% WITHOUT Yao... 65%
Maybe the depth problem is real.
Now seriously, that's depressing.

Re: Rockets team FT% WITHOUT Yao... 65%
I think everybody on this team needs to get their free throws up. Especially Tracy McGrady. What's up with our arguably first scoring option can't make 70% free throws?
Everybody who is under seven feet should be punished for having worse free throw percentage than Yao.

Well I don't remember now what injury TMac had this time, but Wade came back from shoulder and knee surgery and has been struggling with his freethrow shooting this season (compared to previous seasons).
Ofcourse TMac's injury was about 100x less serious and probably has not relation to his freethrow shooting so this is completely irrelevant but just saying..
I don't understand how coaches can tolerate poor freethrow shooting from guys who are capable and expected of shooting well from the line.
Chuck Hayes is an exception though, that guy seriously needs helps..

Wasn't Chuck a 60% FT shooter last season?

62% last year. 55-89
65% the year before 29-45
Someone tried to fix it and made it worse

Re: Rockets team FT% WITHOUT Yao... 65%
I'd care more, but this team doesnt do anything well outside of Yao so I'm not surprised and I'm just gonna add this to the list of everything else we suck at.

Re: Rockets team FT% WITHOUT Yao... 65%
I just don't understand how NBA players can be this bad at free throws. It is one of the basic fundamentals in basketball. Like 2nd basemen not knowing how to throw to 1st, or quarterbacks not knowing how to throw the ball...
I mean I know when I shoot freethrows, I make like over 80% easy. If I can make them easy, why cant NBA players do that?
And I simply just dont understand how in the hell Chuck shoots like that. Just 2 days ago I tried it, and it is the most awkward, unnatural shot ever....
FT form is just basic basketball. Fundamental form is what it is in all sports. Baseball the twist, football the roll off the fingers, basketball the wrist...etc
I guess I just don't understand how players of that caliber can be THAT BAD.

Re: Rockets team FT% WITHOUT Yao... 65%
This is interesting but the numbers are a bit skewed too. According to Rockets.com the team average is .727.
If we are talking just about the starting rotation then yes, our ft % is horrible. (.629) If Scola started it would be .697
If you take our highest percentage (Novak - .1000) and our lowest (Chuck 0 .273) out and average the team we aren't that bad. (.698)
It just depends on who you are looking at and how you are calculating the numbers.

Re: Rockets team FT% WITHOUT Yao... 65%
^ although true, I think the most important would be the starters outside of Yao and our primary bench rotation.
Regardless, anything under 70% as a team is bad.

The way you are calculating these percentages tell us nothing about how freethrows are actually affecting our team. You can't simply average the absolute percentages of two players without taking into account the number of freethrows they actually shoot in a game. Tmac shoots 70% and he takes about 8 a game. Novak may shoot 100%, but he takes 1 every 5 games. Simply averaging those two players would give you 85%, which is obviously not indicative of the actual scenario.
I think the 65% that they gave was taking the actual number of threethrows made this season divided by the number of freethrows taken. They simply took out all the FTs that Yao took and made. Looking at it in this light, 65% is pathetic for a team at any level.
