Which veteran should Scola/Landry study?
Quote:
As the regular season moves toward the final stretch, it's time for the rookies to assess their first season -- what they did right and where they can get better.
One of the tools I use to help players "grow" their games is simple imagery. Most players have a good feel for what they can do, but little imagination for what else they can do with time and effort. So oftentimes I'll have them study another player and tell them specifically what it is the other player is doing that I think they can do to some extent.
Sometimes I'll pick a player who is similar in size or position, while other times I'll look for someone totally different. The idea is not to transform one player into another. Instead, it is to get one player to learn a specific skill or behavior (or both) by seeing that skill-set in action. This will give the student reference points to utilize in daily practices, or games, on the way to mastering the new behaviors or skills.

Scola is already such a developed talent that there's little we can hope he adds to his game. But being able to knock down 3-point shots would be a big boost to his game over the long haul, and Troy Murphy is a great guy to study in terms of long-range shooting because he's so consistent and his mechanics are smooth. Scola is a creative player, and knocking down 3s would force opponents to guard him closer, opening up passing lanes that aren't available as of now.

Outside of learning to shoot the 3, Landry's game is already very well-rounded. So, I'd like to see if he can be more than a role player -- can he be a go-to guy? Landry studying Pierce on offense, learning the triple-threat game and the challenges of taking lots of shots each game, and then seeing if he could indeed serve that role in Houston would be interesting.

I think Scola is already better than Murphy. Just give Scola some time. He is still adjusting to play in this league.
Landry is a different type of player than Pierce though. It will be nice if Landry can be the go to guy however. I think he kind of is already. Morey was a genius.

Morey better be executive of the year. But with the Lakers stealing Gasol from the Grizz, I don't see that happening.

Landry should study Barkley (increased scoring range, rebounding), Scola should study Webber (big men ball handling, court vision).

agree on Landry. i said from the beginning that he remind me of Barkley. but Webber was REALLY good before he was injured and had more athlictisim, Scola should be more...nvm Scola should just be Scola (maybe work on 15 footers) i mean Scola is great; heres what i think is so great about Scola is he can steal the ball from the PG's its amazing on how he does that! Anyone else noticed that? heres a 6-9 guy pick pocketing a pg on the premiter its....just great.

Landry should rub some of Chuck's D onto himself.
