Official Indiana Hoosiers Thread

A thread to talk about the Indiana Hoosiers. We got lots of posters from Indiana and I'm sure some of you are Hoosier fans like myself.

Wow...what a season it could have been. We bring in Eric Gordon to compliment DJ White a fantastic player. Big Ten Champs right? Wrong. Season starts off fantastic but after Head Coach Kelvin Sampson is forced to step down everything goes down hill. We get ranked 8th in the tournament and even if we won our first round game we would have to play the deadly North Carolina Tar Heels. You ask people 2 months ago who they had in their final 4 and I guarantee you would find plent of people picking the Hoosiers.

The game against Arkansas wasn't pretty either. Eric Gordon has a horrible game and the whole team struggled to get to the line and when we did get there we shot horribly. DJ White finished his career at IU with a great game but man next year is not looking good for our Hoosiers. Hopefully we can find a really good coach.

Re: Official Indiana Hoosiers Thread

I'm a Purdue fan, so their turmoil is nice for me. But yeah their future looks uncertain, unless they can land a nice coach. I have heard Rick Patino as a possibility which would be good.

Rick Pitino is either going to stay at UL or go somewhere like St. Johns. He would be a fantastic fit anywhere but I doubt he takes the IU job. I would be willing to bet someone like Sean Miller, Tony Bennett from Washington St., or even possibly Mike Brey from ND all get consideration.

Your Boilmakers have one of the best young coaches in America in Matt Painter. Let me also tell you that you have another talented guard comign into your program from around my area. Ryne Smith should be quite the player at Purdue.

I haven't heard much about Ryne Smith other than the fact that he was recruited, so that's great. However, what Purdue really needs is a real solid big guy. They are pretty solid at their 2 and 3posistions with guys like E'twaun Moore, Hummel, Keaton Grant, Martin, Kramer, etc. They have yet to recruit a big guy this year though. I think that Jujuan Johnson can develope into a solid big for them, he just needs to bulk up in the offseason.

Re: Official Indiana Hoosiers Thread

I've never been a part of the IU-Purdue rivalry, but Purdue won my support last game, even though I'm likely to go to IU. The IU hype around here (I'm probably 25-ish miles from campus) is too annoying for me to cheer for them.

The Purdue game on Thursday was fun to watch, while watching Arkansas beat IU was equally fun.

What the hell...out of all the posters from Indiana on the Pacers board, the guy from Canada is the biggest Hoosier fan.

I like the Hoosiers, but I'm not an avid fan. I'm more of a Butler fan.

But I will say this..if Eric Gordon declares for the draft, then he is a dumb***.

Yeah it would be dumb, he needs to polish up a lot of things in his game. Every Freshman not named Beasley, Rose, Love, or Mayo needs to go back to school.

He SHOULD go back to school but it all comes down to the money.

If it comes down to money, then he should realize that he won't go top 7 or 8 and that if he wants to have a good chance of going earlier (which means more moeny), then he should stay one more year, raise his stock, and play some damn basketball for the Hoosiers.

He needs to come back and show he can play a full year at the top level of college basketball. Every freshman other than Beasley, and Rose needs to do that.

Indiana introduces Tom Crean as new men's basketball coach
Associated Press

Updated: April 2, 2008, 3:55 PM ET
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Tom Crean couldn't say "No" when Indiana offered him the coaching job.

He thought back to the undefeated 1976 team he watched as a child, the first coaching clinic he attended with Bob Knight, the appearance of Kent Benson in his hometown of Mount Pleasant, Mich., and the respect he had for the program.

Yes, his loyalties always seemed to be with Indiana and after his introduction Wednesday as the new coach, he's finally a Hoosier.

"This was a heart decision," Crean said, his voice cracking. "This was not a business decision or a legacy decision. I'd had other opportunities to walk away (from Marquette), and none of them felt like this. I'm going to miss those people a lot, but I'm excited to be here."

Indiana fans are just as eager to have him in Bloomington.

By giving Crean an eight-year deal worth $18.24 million, an average of $2.3 million each season, the Hoosiers paid a hefty price to forget one of the darkest chapters in school history. Kelvin Sampson, who resigned amid an NCAA scandal in February, was to be paid a total of $1.1 million last year before accepting a $750,000 buyout to go away.

Sampson's alleged NCAA violations, player suspensions and player dissension all made wins and losses moot at a school that lives and dies with basketball.

Crean's job is to clean up the mess.

He wants to restore Indiana's national prestige, just as he did at Marquette, and he challenged his new players to complete that task with the same energy and passion he's bringing to the program.

"I'm going to look for people who understand why we wear the candy-striped pants and why we wear Indiana on our jerseys," he said. "It's going to take time."

Tom Crean has his hands full. No starters from this season will be on the team next year.

Reinstating Bassett and Ellis should be his top priorities.
