What does future hold for Reggie?
QUESTION
OF THE DAY
Conrad Brunner
Quote:
Q. As a super Reggie fan, I would be extremely upset to see Reggie Miller leave the court and never come back. Anyway, that day will finally come, sooner or later. But I am just curious about what will Reggie do to make his living for the rest of his life? Does he own any business at the moment? Is there any possibility that he would join the Pacers' coaching team or even the management when he retires? (From Tiffany in Sydney, Australia)
A. Now that the word is official and final that this will indeed be Reggie Miller's final NBA season, there has been quite a bit of curiosity from fans about his future. When asked about that in his press conference Friday night, he insisted he would not fall into the category of the ex-player who finds himself missing the routine of the game so much that he wouldn't know what to do with himself. He said he has several projects in the works, although he didn't reveal them, and indicated he would have no trouble keeping busy.
Initially, he'd probably like to lay low for a while, maybe head to Los Angeles and hang out in the sun to recharge his internal batteries and dabble in some of those aforementioned projects. But there's little doubt in my mind he'll be involved with the game again before too much time passes. Though he obviously has a wealth of knowledge and experience, I doubt he'll be drawn to coaching. If interested, he could probably have some type of relationship with the Pacers' front office, perhaps as a consultant.
If I had to guess, I'd say you're most likely to see him sharing a seat with Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith on TNT's NBA telecasts. Reggie has a quick wit, lively sense of humor and a sharp tongue, all of which suit him well for a long career in television. His sister Cheryl can certainly provide a good reference. This is a guy, after all, who clearly is comfortable in the spotlight.

I know that all throughout Reggie's career he has stated that he has absolutely no interest in coaching, which is a shame, because I really think he could be a superb coach...just imagine if he came back to coach the Pacers....that would be a perfect scenario for a lot of us.
But given that this will never happen, I would personally love to see Reggie as a TV analyst, preferably with TNT as was mentioned by Conrad. I would love to see him and Barkley playing off of eachother. Plus then I would never miss any of the TNT games.

Exactly what I was thinking, Reggie could make an awesome coach or staff member, but if he doesn't want to, I'd love to see him on TNT.

I was just about to say that.
I bet Reggie will take a year or two off, but after that I wouldn't be surprised to see him with the Pacers organization again. (Not as a player)

I agree with all of you, I would love to see Reggie in the Pacers organization. I've always been thinking that when Reggie retires he would become some sort of assistant coach for the Pacers. I've also always dreaded the day when Reggie would retire ever since I've been a Pacers fan.
It would also be great to see him on TNT, with Charles and Kenny.

You see, Reverend Maynard, tomorrow is harvest day and to them it is the holocaust." And I sprang from my slumber drenched in sweat like the tears of one million terrified brothers and roared, "Hear me now, I have seen the light! They have a consciousness, they have a life, they have a soul! Damn you! Let the rabbits wear glasses! Save our brothers!" Can I get an amen? Can I get a hallelujah? Thank you Jesus.
