Did Commissioner Leave Door Ajar for Artest?

Quote:
Q. ESPN recently reported in an interview with Commissioner (David) Stern that "Stern said there had been no application for the reinstatement of Ron Artest from his season-long suspension." Granted, the quote may have been taken out of context, but doesn't is seem to imply that he would at least consider such an application? He could have made a more emphatic statement regarding the suspension, but didn't. Is this reading too much into the statement? (From Wade in Indianapolis)

Quote:
"I don't want to spend too much time on the Ron Artest matter," Stern said. "I'm a victim of my own inability to say that I'd like never to say never, but I don't anticipate that there will be an application for reinstatement, and I'm not thinking about the subject now, period."
It sounds like Stern isn't going to even think very hard about reinstating Artest, and since the league opposed Jermaine's reinstatment, I doubt Stern will allow Artest to come back for the playoffs. But I still remain hopeful, you never know.

Re: Did Commissioner Leave Door Ajar for Artest?

Can I suggest something?
I think it would create a lot more discussions if we only post a brief section of the article, with the link, and give our prespective on it that way.
Just posting the entire article as a thread doesn't really get the discussion going.

I prefer people posting the entire article, so I don't have to waste extra bandwith taking the time to look at the entire article.

Well this way you have to read the entire article to get the jist of what is actually going on.
I'd much rather have certain parts of the article posted, so I can get into the discussion immediately, without having to read three or four useless paragraphs.

There, it's fixed.

There we go.
Talk a little bit about it too, so we can actually get into the article and understand what it's about.

See your learning now, keep at it.

Re: Did Commissioner Leave Door Ajar for Artest?

Well this is kind of an unofficial update:

There was a thread on Realgm that said Artest is going to be meeting with Stern tomorrow, February 28th to discuss the possibility of his reinstatement. Again, there is no positive source behind this report, just something I read on realgm, but for now I will buy it to it, and I guess with due time we will find out. Supposedly we are supposed to hear whether or not Artest will be let back this year at all within 2 weeks after the meeting. Whether or not Artest is let back in, this will be good just so that we can finally burry the hatchet of this issue and move on with the season one way or the other.

I'm guessing that Stern gives in, he doesn't seem like he ever wants to talk about it, and if he does let Artest play the playoffs, then the monkey will be off his back.

I would like to see that happen, but I still just have a hard time believing that. I know Stern wants to keep his chokehold on the NBA, and if he gives in, it will be a sign of weakness on his part. But hey, I sure am hoping that he does give in.....oh man I can just picture it now....

Re: Did Commissioner Leave Door Ajar for Artest?

stern feels like he has some point to prove

and reinstating artest for the playoffs wouldnt do that

so i doubt he'll do it. that jerk

So, you originally say you doubt Stern will allow Artest to come back, then you say that you think he'll give in.

Re: Did Commissioner Leave Door Ajar for Artest?

The Commish would bring Artest back for the playoffs if the Pacers make it to help boost the ratings.
