The price of a lackluster effort and the resulting loss in New York Saturday night is the increase in importance of this game against an elite team. Seattle has the fourth-best record in the NBA, but the Pacers need a victory to head into their final Western Conference road trip of the season with a positive mindset and renewed confidence.
"We know this is a very important game," said Coach Rick Carlisle. "You want to head out on a West Coast trip with some momentum, and we had some until Saturday night. Seattle's a tough game, especially with them coming off a big loss in Milwaukee. You know their resolve is going to be very hardened to come in here and play at a high level. It's a challenge we've got to meet. We've got some momentum going at home and we need to continue in that vein, but we know it's not going to be easy."
The Pacers likely will play without both point guard Jamaal Tinsley (foot) and center Jeff Foster (back) for the third game in a row. Neither player practiced Monday and both are listed as doubtful. But there was good injury news as Jermaine O'Neal, who suffered bruised ribs courtesy a Stephon Marbury knee in New York, participated in all but the full-contact portions of practice and prounced himself fit to play.
"He's sore, but he's got 24 hours to feel a little bit better," Carlisle said. "We'll get him padded up and hopefully he'll feel OK."
The Pacers had won five in a row before losing to the Knicks, and the hope is a victory over the Sonics would go a long way toward extending the momentum built during that season-long streak.
"Any time you can take momentum into a road trip, that's great," said Austin Croshere. "Obviously we're playing pretty good basketball right now. We kind of ran out of gas in New York so I think it's important to get headed back on the right track, especially heading into a road trip. It's an important time of the year, fighting not only to make the playoffs but to move up in the seedings, as well."

Pacers - O'Neal hs averaged 23.3 points in the last four games. ... Stephen Jackson has averaged 13.6 points on 39.4 percent shooting (26-of-66) in the last five. ... Reggie Miller has averaged 16.4 points on 54 percent shooting (27-of-50) in the last five. ... Fred Jones has averaged 5.7 points on 35.3 percent shooting (6-of-17) in the last three. ... David Harrison has averaged 7.0 points and 3.5 rebounds while shooting 64.3 percent (9-of-14) in the last four. ... Eddie Gill is 4-of-14 (.286) from the field in the last four.
Sonics - Ray Allen is coming off a 4-of-16 shooting night against his former Bucks team in Milwaukee. ... Antonio Daniels has shot 36.4 percent (12-of-33) in the last four. ... Reggie Evans has averaged 10.5 rebounds in 23.0 minutes in the last four. ... Jerome James has gone scoreless in three of the last four games. ... Rashard Lewis has shot 32 percent (8-of-25) and totaled 25 points in the last two games. ... Ronald Murray has shot 27.8 percent (5-of-18) in the last two. ... Vladimir Radmanovic was 0-of-7 overall and 0-of-5 in Milwaukee. ... Luke Ridnour has shot 23.7 percent (9-of-38) in the last five.
SERIES
The Pacers are 17-13 all-time at home but 26-34 overall. The Sonics won the first meeting this season 103-95 in Seattle on Nov. 28, but Tinsley was the only regular starter available for that game and he scored 22. The Pacers closed to 93-89 with 4 minutes left but Seattle scored the next seven points to put it away.
KEY MATCHUP
Power Forward - Since joining the Pacers, O'Neal has averaged 20.8 points on 50.8 percent shooting against Seattle. If the Pacers can keep the tempo under control and use their biggest advantage in the low post, O'Neal could dominate. But Seattle will try to keep things moving at a quicker pace in order to minimize halfcourt opportunities.
INJURIES
Pacers - G Jamaal Tinsley (foot) and C Jeff Foster (back) are doubtful; F Michael Curry (hamstring), F Jonathan Bender (knee) and C John Edwards (thigh) are on the injured list; F Ron Artest is on the suspended list.
Sonics - F Reggie Evans (ankle) is a game-time decision; G Mateen Cleaves (thumb) and G Damien Wilkins (knee) are on the injured list.
