Delay in diagnosing his foot injury frustrates Tinsley

http://www.indystar.com/articles/2/234278-2602-179.html

Quote:
WASHINGTON -- Injured Indiana Pacers point guard Jamaal Tinsley believes he could have been back by now if doctors hadn't taken so long to find out what was wrong with his left foot. Tinsley likely won't be back this season.
"If they did what they were supposed to do from the beginning, maybe I would have been back," Tinsley said Sunday. "Everybody has their own opinion of what's wrong with me and what's not wrong with me. I knew I was hurting."
Tinsley has played just 42 minutes since hurting his foot Jan. 31. At first, the Pacers thought the injury wasn't serious. But he suffered a setback every time it seemed he was getting close to returning.
It took nearly two months before it was revealed last week that Tinsley has a mid-foot sprain and stretched ligament in his foot. He spent a week in New York recently seeing a foot specialist.
"I kept hearing a lot of stuff," Tinsley said. "It just gets frustrating when I'm not really knowing what's wrong and these guys are working on me not knowing either."
Because it took so long, Tinsley isn't optimistic he'll be back this season.
"It's going to be another month before I do anything," Tinsley said. "It's frustrating knowing I can't be there with Reggie Miller. He's done a lot for the game and I can't go out there and play with him."

I definitely understand where his frusteration is coming from. If he would've been diagnosed correctly from the get go, he could've been taking the necessary steps towards recovery since the beginning of february. Instead he had the huge delay and now is forced to rehab later on. I like how he stated anger at not being able to play with Reggie in his last games.

Re: Delay in diagnosing his foot injury frustrates Tinsley

Sometimes it's not possible to diagnose an injury immediately. Maybe if Tinsley would keep himself better conditioned, he wouldn't get hurt every single year, and this wouldn't even be an issue. The fact that he's blaming the doctors, instead of his own bad work ethic, makes me think he's not going to be in any better shape next year either.

Oh well, Tinsley doesn't matter that much to me because Anthony Johnson has turned out so well. I notice that the people who were saying Eddie Gill and Jamison Brewer were better than Johnson, have quieted down.

I still think that if Gill was given enough time, he could be better than AJ. Johnson hasn't been playing well all year, so a recent streak of good games won't be enough to convince me that he can continue to play solid. I still miss Brewer on the Pacers, but I'm guessing I'm the only one.

Great point.

Damn, this kills any chance we have if we play Detroit (and any other playoff team if they're smart and press and trap). I just say Detroit because they always do.

I don't know if I can talk, cause I'm horrible at facing press too, but you'd think AJ would be able to do something against it by this point in his career.

Well we just beat Detroit with AJ, so I'm not too worried about it.

That's right, and the way Johnson is playing right now, he's arguably better than Tinsley anyway. The only negative with Tinsley being out is that Eddie Gill has to get playing time at backup point guard.

I think Johnson plays badly when he doesn't play within himself. He can't run a fast break and he can't make the amazing passes Tinsley sometimes does to get people open layups or dunks. As long as we keep running an offense that's suited to Johnson's talent I don't see why he won't keep playing well.

They were without Hamilton though, who will likely play in the playoffs.
