Player Expectations: Anthony Johnson
Anthony Johnson is a pretty good backup PG, but with the addition of Sarunas Jasikevicius and a hopefully injury and brawl-free season, he shouldn't be seeing many minutes. He'll probably force Jasikevicius to 3rd string for the first 5-10 games, but then his minutes will decline more. Unfortunately, we'll then have our starting and backup PG's both incapable of playing defense. Hopefully this won't hurt us, but pushing Anthony Johnson to 3rd string is something that might be dangerous, considering the opposing team's PG will probably dominate us.
Anthony Johnson's 2004-2005 stats:
63 games played
36 games started
28 minutes per game
8.4 ppg
2.8 rpg
4.8 apg
.94 spg
.24 bpg
44.5% on FG's
38.0% on 3's
75.2% on FT's
1.52 topg
2.3 fpg
Anthony Johnson's Projected 2005-2006 stats:
71 games played
2 games started
10 minutes per game
3.1 ppg
1.2 rpg
1.5 apg
.68 spg
.09 bpg
46% on FG's
1.3 fpg

I've heard from many people that he's a poor defender, even for European standards.

Re: Player Expectations: Anthony Johnson
Johnson should be the backup PG behind Tinsley, and he should play as strongly as last season.

I'm just saying that he should, not that he will.

Re: Player Expectations: Anthony Johnson
AJ still brings something to the table that the P's will use. Knowing that Tins will not make it through the season healthy, AJ brings a veteran presence that Sarunas will be missing sometimes. His ability to still break down a defender and hit a shot makes him a valuable veteran bench guy and his size is tough for other backup PGs to defend.
And Sarunas's perceived lack of D is RC's forte...team defense.

Re: Player Expectations: Anthony Johnson
I don't see AJ getting more than 10-15 minutes per game (maybe less). We can still use his defense if Saras is struggling. I've never seen Saras play so I don't know if he fits in over AJ or not.

They have a consciousness, they have a life, they have a soul! Damn you! Let the rabbits wear glasses! Save our brothers!" Can I get an amen? Can I get a hallelujah? Thank you Jesus.

Re: Player Expectations: Anthony Johnson
this could be a strange season for aj. his min. will be a big question mark. however i can only see that it is likely he will stay with this team this year. i (for one) see the aquiring of saras as a possible move to him (saras) becoming the eventual starter. i see this offseason as a sighn that rick and larry are not so sure tinsley is the man for this team.
it certainly seems like every year that tinsley is beset with periodic injuries during the regular season and is always hobbled by the playoffs. i would be looking at possibilities for him since he can't seem to hold it together without breaking down.
it wouldn't shock me terribly if by next year, tinsley is somewhere else next year.
