It has to do with Stern conspiracy theories against the smaller market teams. Indy and San Antonio have been screwed by refs in the past 8 years. Remember the shot clock thing in '99 with SA and New York? LJ's 4 point play against Indy. The Bulls, Detroit, and Lakers. The Kings being screwed in LA, also, even though they probably have a larger market than Indy.

Detroit is not small market, but let's pretend it is. My brother would call that "the exception that proves the rule." And a nugget for the conspiracy theorists: Detroit won because the league figured it was time Larry Brown actually got a ring. I'm not saying I believe it. I'm saying you can spin any situation to fit your needs.

You make good points. I just don't like believing in these conspiracy theories in sports, because I think adopting such beliefs is a defeatest attitude. In order to be the best, you gotta beat the best. Period.
