O'Neal says team needs loyal fans
http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dl...TS04/601150476
Quote:
CHICAGO -- Indiana Pacers forward Jermaine O'Neal has never been one to back down when it comes to talking about the organization.
He stood up during the team's turmoil after the brawl at the Palace of Auburn Hills (Mich.) last season. He's been even more outspoken during this season's Ron Artest saga. And now, O'Neal is voicing his opinion about Pacers fans.
O'Neal took exception to a fan's comment late in Friday's loss to the Washington Wizards at Conseco Fieldhouse.
"He was like, 'Way to stink up the place, Pacers,' " O'Neal said. "That (ticks) me off because he's saying he paid good money. I appreciate the support, but at the same time, we tried to win the game. We don't try to turn the ball over, we don't try to make dumb plays, we (mostly I) don't try to rebound. We want to make this city proud in a major way."

And I sprang from my slumber drenched in sweat like the tears of one million terrified brothers and roared, "Hear me now, I have seen the light! They have a consciousness, they have a life, they have a soul! Damn you! Let the rabbits wear glasses! Save our brothers!" Can I get an amen? Can I get a hallelujah? Thank you Jesus.

Edit: Larry Legend made me jump on Jermaine before I realized he was joking.

Re: O'Neal says team needs loyal fans
I could understand where he's coming from, but at the same time he has to understand that no fan likes to lose, and nothing will ever change that...
Teams will still get booed at home one night, and then loved the next, it's just a part of sports...

Re: O'Neal says team needs loyal fans
This season, I think, has been the hardest as a Pacers fan. Last season was hard, especially right after the loss, but we played inspired ball, and getting to the 2nd round and going up 2-1 was actually satisfying.
This season, though, our championship aspiration were snuffed by uncontemplated words, that were taken back a week later. Plus we'll probably have to do some major renovating with the team.

Re: O'Neal says team needs loyal fans
This is hands-down the most frustrating season in my 15+ years as a Pacer fan....Going from Contenders to also-rans in one day and now just sitting around waiting for a trade that won't make a difference this year anyway. Not sure how, but I think this is worse than LJ's 4-point play.

Re: O'Neal says team needs loyal fans
That game was the same night as my Senior Prom in High School. All I remember is sitting at my house in a tux for about 1/2 hour trying to decide whether or not I was going to call my date and cancel. Ending up taping the game and going to the prom and getting drunk at the after party, and somehow managed to avoid hearing anything about the game (did this by threatening my friends with a punch in the face if they told me anything). Then I awoke on the floor the next morning at the exact moment when Sportscenter was showing that play. Really, really, really ****ty morning. I forced myself to watch the game later though, which was a bad idea.
But this is the last I will ever speak of this. Never happened.
