Mike Wells JO trade ideas
Quote:
Teams can make trades from now until July 1 and then again on July 11.
The traded players' salaries must come within 125 percent of each other -- meaning O'Neal can't be dealt simply for a much lower paid player to reduce the Pacers' payroll. There is one exception: A team far enough under the salary cap can trade a draft pick and/or a lower-paid player for O'Neal as long as O'Neal's salary doesn't push the team over the cap.
Toronto, Atlanta, Charlotte and Chicago are expected to be under the salary cap this summer.

Quote:
1. O'Neal ($19.7 million) to Minnesota for forward Kevin Garnett ($22 million).
>> Why it works: O'Neal and Garnett both need a change of scenery after enduring tough seasons the past few years.
>> Why it doesn't: Timberwolves vice president Kevin McHale said Thursday he has no intention of trading Garnett. O'Neal and Garnett can opt out of their contracts next season. Garnett is also older and has more wear and tear.
2. O'Neal ($19.7 million) to New York for Jamal Crawford ($7.9 million), Channing Frye ($2.5 million) and Jared Jeffries ($5.6 million)
>> Why it works: O'Neal still has a close bond with Knicks coach Isiah Thomas. Crawford can play both guard positions and he's capable of high-scoring games.
>> Why it doesn't: The Pacers would be helping their former coach take a step closer to returning to the playoffs.
3. O'Neal ($19.7 million) to Los Angeles Lakers for Lamar Odom ($13.5 million), Andrew Bynum ($2.2 million) and Maurice Evans ($1.5 million).
>> Why it works: O'Neal would love to play alongside Kobe Bryant and become the second scoring option. Odom's versatility would allow him to play the point-forward position with the Pacers.
>> Why it doesn't: The Lakers are reluctant to part ways with Bynum, an up-and-coming big man.
4. O'Neal ($19.7 million) and Jamaal Tinsley ($6.3 million) to the Los Angeles Clippers for Elton Brand ($15.3 million), Corey Maggette ($7.8 million) and Shaun Livingston ($4.4 million)
>> Why it works: Both teams would be trading All-Star forwards, and the Clippers need a point guard since Livingston will likely miss all next season and Sam Cassell will be 38.
>> Why it doesn't: The Pacers have had enough injury problems. Livingston had reconstructive surgery on his left knee last month. Maggette is healthy now, but his foot injuries scared off the Pacers when they were shopping Ron Artest.
5. O'Neal ($19.7 million) to Denver for Nene ($11.1 million) Marcus Camby ($8 million) and J.R. Smith ($1.6 million).
>> Why it works: The Pacers get a solid big man in Nene, the league's top shot-blocker in Camby and solve their 3-point shooting problem with Smith. O'Neal gets to play alongside All-Stars Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony.
>> Why it doesn't: The Nuggets might not think there are enough shots to go around among O'Neal, Iverson and Anthony.

Feel free to post your own ideas.
My thoughts:
#1: Obviously not going to happen unless we include more in the deal, and even then, getting a better, older player isn't going to do much for this team at all.
#2: I like Jamal Crawford, but Channing Frye hasn't improved much this year, looking like a career NBA-benchie. Jared Jeffries? I guess he could bring some IU fans, but he makes too much money, and this deal doesn't set us up for the future that well. At least we'd have a solid SG, though. I doubt it'll happen, but it wouldn't be so bad if we could get a future first or something.
#3: My favorite of all the deals. Odom only has two years remaining, and would able to play PF in a more up-tempo offense. Having a ball handler and passer at that position with range would be nice, although he wouldn't be much of a main scoring option. Andrew Bynum would be lovely to have for the future, especially with Ike, Williams, and Granger already on the team.
#4: No chance at all. Elton Brand isn't far away from O'Neal at all, if he isn't already better. No way the Clippers give Maggette and Livingston with him. It wouldn't be terrible for us, but Shaun Livingston might not ever develop when he returns, and the combo of Maggette and Brand won't turn us around, either.
#5: As if we already didn't have terrible contracts with Dunleavy and Murphy, gaining 4 years of Nene and 3 years of Camby, even though they're both very nice players, wouldn't do anything for us. JR Smith would be nice, but people have complained about his attitude before, and that's the last thing this team needs. We'd have a great collection of overpaid role players, but no scorers. Camby isn't overpaid, but it's still 3 years of cap-eating.

Interesting, at this point, I think any of those(aside from New York) would help the Pacers. I don't see any of those happening however, but the Lakers one would be nice.

None of these even have a chance of happening except for #3. That's close to what I think will happen this offseason.

I would be satisfied with just a top ten pick for Jermaine O'neal.

I like the lakers one. Adding Farmar would be cool, though

Re: Mike Wells JO trade ideas
i am very skeptical of the lakers deal. i doubt they would give odom and bynum. bynum has huge upside and will likely surpass kwame in the near future. although i wish it would happen because that would be a pretty sweet deal in my oppinion.
as far as the clips deal goes- i love brand but have NO intrest in livingston. he is far to frail. this wasn't even the first time he hurt his knee. mags would be nice to have since he has proven to me his foot issue wasn't as bad as feared. but livingston..ugh!!!
those are the 2 deals that look best to me.
i disagree though about wells on garnett. he is older but the wear and tear- i'm not seeing it. he has remained able to hold together as well or better than jermaine. if anything, i'd say jermaine has more wear and tear.

the only good deal and the pacers would be rapin the nuggets on that deal. to get a starting 2-guard in j.r. plus nene who is finally startin to show that promise and camby if he could stay healthy would be big. trade tinsley for a capable PG (mo williams anyone?) and you're on the right track
PG- Mo Williams
SG- J.R. Smith
SF- Granger
PF- Nene
C- Camby
plus foster, diogu, shawne williams off the bench

Re: Mike Wells JO trade ideas
I like JO and think he is a great player, but I dont see the Lakers giving up both Odom and Bynum for him, thats just too much.
How about Kwame for JO straight up . . .please? Ehh, worth a try.
