Season In Review: Jeff Foster
Quote:
2006-07 REVIEW: Coming off two injury-shortened seasons in which he missed a combined 40 games, Foster enjoyed a relatively healthy campaign, appearing in 75 games. Though his averages (4.3 points, 8.1 rebounds) represented a slight dropoff from recent seasons, he continued to rank as one of the league's most productive rebounders, finishing third in rebounds per 48 minutes (16.8) and first in offensive rebounds per 48 minutes (7.0). The starting center for most of the first half of the season, he willingly accepted a reserve role immediately after the trade but returned to the lineup late in the year, finishing with 43 starts.
STRENGTHS: An utterly relentless rebounder, Foster uses his quick-jumping ability and deceptive strength very effectively. One of the fastest big men in the league, he's also willing to give up his body in drawing charges and diving for loose balls. He's a mudder, a grinder, a specialist in the little things that frequently aren't reflected in his line in the box score. Though not a shot-blocker, Foster is a strong defender who usually draws the toughest matchup.
WEAKNESSES: His primary offensive weapon remains the tip-in. Though he's worked on his shot through the years, Foster has never developed a consistent mid-range jumper. He also has begun to struggle with finishing around the basket as he dunks less and uses the rim and backboard more, perhaps a concession to time and the lingering effects of old injuries. Foster also remains an unsure free-throw shooter.

Foster earns an A- from me. He actually played 75 games this year, and although his athleticism might've taken a bit of a hit, he still tries as hard as ever, and is just as good a rebounder as last year.
