Question Season In Review: David Harrison

Quote:
2006-07 REVIEW: Though it was hoped the agile 7-footer would enjoy something of a breakthrough last season, his body instead broke down. Harrison suffered an injury to his left shoulder in November. After missing 12 games, he returned in December but quickly aggravated the shoulder and sat out 23 more. In all, Harrison made just 24 appearances and averaged 3.0 points and 1.8 rebounds, all career lows. Because of the otherwise deep frontcourt rotation, the team didn't suffer for Harrison's injury problems but his career path certainly ran into a wall.
Quote:
STRENGTHS: There really aren't many players of his size and strength who share Harrison's athleticism. He runs well, jumps quickly and has a nice offensive touch as well as strong shot-blocking skills.
WEAKNESSES: Aside from the injury, fouls continue to be Harrison's biggest problem. In his third season, he averaged 11.9 fouls per 48 minutes, which actually represented an increase from the 8.7 average of his first two seasons. The primary contributing factors are fundamental problems; he tends to play too vertically rather than maintaining a more balanced center of gravity, does not move his feet well enough to keep a strong base and tends to overuse his hands. He also has a tendency to press; he wants to do well so badly he tries too hard and in the process makes mistakes both emotional and physical.

My Grade- D
Harrison was hurt way too much this year, especially for a guy who was supposedly rehabbing all summer, and lost weight. The quickness with fewer pounds only seemed to have hurt him, because he has no idea how to play in the post without traveling on a jump hook or knocking someone over with his strength.

Re: Season In Review: David Harrison

it's kind of hard to decide what grade to give him since he was hardly ever on the court. if it wasn't injuries, it was his foul trouble/temper. he has legit skills but, he also has many problems. i don't know if i'd say he was hurt from the lost weight or that he lost strength because of it. he probably gained stamina from the weight loss however, it was impossible to determine that because he could never stay out there for long on those rare occasions he actually played. he was always getting in foul trouble and getting yanked because rick knew about his temper. sometimes though, rick didn't get him out before and david would get himself taken out courtesy of the refs.

ultimately, i'm pretty much done with this guy. we took a chance and it hasn't worked out so far. he has like 1 more season on contract i think and if he doesn't make substantial progress in the weaknesses in his game (especialy his temper) then don't sighn him again. i think we are finding out why a big guy like him with solid skills was left till the end of the 1st round. his college coach didn't give a positive review back before he was drafted and i believe he was talking about his attitude.
a shame really.
i give him a d-

Shoulder and chest injuries, bad stamina, stupid fouls, and better players playing in front of him.
