Season In Review: Jamaal Tinsley
Quote:
2006-07 REVIEW: After missing 112 games the previous three seasons, the most important individual goal for Tinsley was to avoid injury problems. That he did until a freakish elbow injury late in the season cost him five straight games – his longest absence. Overall, Tinsley played 72 games, his most in four years, and averaged 12.8 points, 6.9 assists (11th in the league), 3.3 rebounds and 1.63 steals (10th). Though he never openly complained about the complicated and heavily structured offensive system of former Coach Rick Carlisle, Tinsley was never given free reign to call plays and run the offense and often appeared frustrated by those limits.
STRENGTHS: A very creative player, Tinsley is one of the few players on the roster capable of making something out of nothing. Effective on the drive and in transition, he also finishes relatively well for a player lacking explosive athleticism. At times, he has scored in large volume but prefers the role of setup man. Surprisingly strong, Tinsley is very effective in the post. Few guards in the league have better ballhandling skills.
WEAKNESSES: Shooting. Tinsley made 38.9 percent of his field goal attempts, including 31.6 percent from the 3-point line. Though a good team defender, he struggles to contain quick point guards. He's often criticized for his dispassionate demeanor as well as a tendency to appear lethargic at times.

Tinsley earned a B this year. He played very well and actually participated in 72 games, but still made many mistakes, took too many threes, and hasn't been able to play decent defense.
