Season In Review: Shawne Williams
How do you see this guy evolving next season? Now obviously he's only 21 and seen very limited minutes due to Carlisles conservativeness - but Im excited about this kid. Hes got a very nice attitude and I think next season, once he gets worked into a rotation with Granger, Marquis and Dunleavy in the 2-3 positions, he'll be able to contribute solidly.
And for those of you who arent Shawne Williams fans, if you could redo the 2006 draft, who would you have taken 17th instead?

Re: Shawne Williams
The Nets can have Marcus Williams. He is not that good.

Re: Shawne Williams
I like Shawne, but it may have been the dumbest pick. I'd take Marcus Williams over Shawne Williams any day.

Re: Shawne Williams
Shawne Williams is awesome. His 3-point shooting and decent slashing game mixed with his height, quickness, and overall athleticism make me think he's going to be a star someday. I've said this before, but as of now, he seems more promising than Granger.
To re-do the 2006 draft, I'd still pick Williams. Seriously, even though he isn't a star yet, we didn't pass up anyone that good. Douby, Rondo, and Brown haven't done anything, then while Marcus Williams and Farmar have had decent seasons, they haven't looked too spectacular. Boone looked nice the one game he played us, but he didn't in any other Nets games I watched. Then we have Sergio Rodriguez, who could be a nice player.

Re: Shawne Williams
agreed PF, and I feel Shawne has much more potential than Marcus. I would even take him over Granger in a few seasons.

Re: Shawne Williams
By the way, I changed the title so I could post the last SIN Pacer instead of making a new thread:
Quote:
2006-07 REVIEW: Drafted after just one college season, Shawne Williams was viewed as something of a long-term project when he joined the Pacers. Not only was he battling youth and inexperience but a roster that offered little in the way of opportunity at his primary position of small forward. There was even talk of sending him to the D-League for playing time. But Williams remained with the Pacers, watched and learned. On the inactive list for the first 22 games, he scored 13 points in his Dec. 11 debut at Chicago – the second-most points ever scored by a Pacers rookie in his first NBA game – but remained only on the fringe of the rotation. But the Golden State trade and the injury to Marquis Daniels created opportunity and Williams took full advantage. He played in 20 of the final 21 games, missing the finale only because of a sprained ankle, and averaged 18.2 minutes, 6.3 points, 2.8 rebounds, 51.5 percent shooting overall and 37.9 percent from the arc.
STRENGTHS: The Pacers were drawn to Williams by his shooting and he didn't disappoint. He has a quick, easy stroke and should develop into a legitimate 3-point threat. He also showed the ability to drive and finish strong. Already the possessor of a solid NBA frame, Williams also has above-average athleticism that should become more apparent has he develops strength, experience and confidence. Perhaps the most pleasant surprise was his maturity and attitude, as he displayed a determined and workmanlike approach to preparation.
WEAKNESSES: From a skill-set standpoint, there's little he shouldn't be able to learn how to do. As with most young players, Williams needs to learn the nuances of NBA defense, as well as develop a better feel for playing without the ball on offense. Two critical areas to his growth will be to show improvement as a passer and rebounder.

I've already mentioned Shawne above, so I'll give him a B for the season, only because I didn't get to see him enough. He really should've played in the D League for the first half of the year instead of sitting on the bench.

B-. He would get a B if we had seen more from him. (not his fault though)

Re: Season In Review: Shawne Williams
The guy has a tremendous package of size and skill for a SF prospect. He's 6'9, 225 (probably still has some room to develop physically), has something like a 7'2 wingspan, can handle the ball, shoot, pass, block shots, etc, etc.
He compared himself to Mike Miller before the draft, and I think that's about where he'll end up - $7-8m/year guy.

Re: Season In Review: Shawne Williams
I must say I do disagree with Auggie and Pacers_Fan. I still think, and always will think drafting Shawne Williams was just a horrible selection. Just brutal. After watching the series between the Nets and the Raptors i did realize Marcus isn't half as good as I once thought he was. Jose Calderon had a very easy time scoring on Marcus Williams. But then what did/do the Pacers need? A point guard. Tinsley is way to inconsistent and I dont see Armstrong playing after the next season. Marcus Williams would have been more valuable to the Pacers and he still would be. We got Danny Granger, did we really need to pick Shawne Williams? I would of even preferred Jordan Farmar.
