He's taken a few poor shots this year, but overall, it's been better than in past years. However, this game was the worst I'd ever seen from anyone. Even LeBron James and Kobe Bryant pass the ball more. I guess it didn't help that Indy took almost all 3-pointers during the second half of the fourth, and missed almost all of them. When Tinsley loses confidence in his team, it can be the worst thing in basketball since he acts like the greatest player in history, except with an ego. He took every shot in overtime except a tip-in (from a Tinsley miss) by Dunleavy. I think he passed the ball maybe twice before Indy ran the same play 2-3 times in a row, causing him to give the ball to someone else, only to receive it and shoot another terrible shot.
I'm still fine with him as the PG of the team, but maybe O'Brien's given him too much freedom. Earlier this year Tinsley asked him if he should stop shooting so much, and Jim said that he shouldn't since his shots were high-percentage. Too bad when Tinsley shoots it, it's a lower percentage shot than anyone else.
This needs to be a team. Isolating JO and him not passing the ball didn't work, and neither will this. Our team is full of youngsters who lack confidence when they don't receive the ball. Guys like Dunleavy, Williams, Granger, and Diogu all turn into scrubs when it's isolation ball. Ideally the ball is passed around and handled often by Mike Dunleavy, and if in need, Daniels, JO, or Tinsley can isolate. Not for an entire overtime period, every possession.
One last note: Marquis Daniels is hurt, yes, but he can't get to the basket at all. The past few games I've watched he hasn't been able to even come close to the hoop, let alone finish there. Where he'd normally pull some unique isolation move (yes, I approve of 'Quis isolating since it usually occurs late in the shot clock when the team has nothing else going) and finish with some other unique move, he's just crossing over his man and driving in 5 feet for a pull-up jumper. As we all know, Marquis doesn't hit jump shots. He hasn't been lately, either.
With David Harrison out for 5 games now, the team will have to play more small ball. Daniels and O'Neal are both aching, so they, too, could miss some time. This means more of Diogu and Murphy at Center, Williams/Granger at Power Forward, and maybe the return of Courtney Sims. It worked earlier in the year without JO. It better again, because I can't stand this team missing the playoffs yet again.
