O'neal willing to sit out season to rehab knee
Quote:
Indiana Pacers forward Jermaine O'Neal told The Star on Sunday that he is willing to sit out the rest of the season, if necessary, to take care of his ongoing left knee problem.
O'Neal said his knee, which he had surgery on last April, has not fully recovered and that he returned to the court too soon.
"That's really the prime option for me," O'Neal said Sunday afternoon, of sitting out the rest of the season. "We're going to rehab now like it was the summer, with an extensive rehab. If that consists of a month or the rest of the season, I need to take the necessary steps to not come back on something that's not really healthy.
"That's the thing we have been saying. It's OK, but it really hasn't really been OK."
Team president Larry Bird could not be reached for comment Sunday.
O'Neal, who has missed eight games this season, said he knew something had to be done after playing just nine minutes, all the in the first quarter, against the Golden State Warriors last week.
"I'm not giving the team a shot," he said. "I would rather them give the guys a shot with the group that's going to be there every single day."

Re: O'neal willing to sit out season to rehab knee
he might as well sit. but i doubt it makes any difference for him. this is hardly the first time he tried to come back too early. he has done it so many times that i think he has done permanent damage and no matter how much rest he gets- won't change it.
he is simply falling apart i believe.
we might as well tank becuase this team will be lucky to win more than a game before all-star break.
this team has no hope of doing anything if it did make the playoffs and the lack of attendance shows it.
if they squeaked in at #8 it would be a 4 game sweep by either bos. or det.
we need to try to get a good pick and get a pg and or center.
those 2 spots are going to be must fix spots.
i'm so tired of tinsley- he makes me puke. he will never have much trade value since he can never stay healthy. we need a pg who can stay healthy and jamal ain't it. i think jermaine is only on contract for 2 more years and we are likely stuck with him. no way he opts out because he knows damn well he ain't gonna get anywhere near the cash he's getting now.

Re: O'neal willing to sit out season to rehab knee
Dude Tinsley is our man this year despite his times of 0-25 shooting and/or 7 turnovers and/or DNP-injured games. Without him, we definitely aren't the uptempo team that we are supposed to be. Tinsley is the only person that can shake up a whole team defense and get Dunleavy/Granger open for 3's. Tinsley, although I don't like him too much, is our MVP this year

I agree everything you said about Jamaal except him being our MVP...I that award goes to Dunleavy, and regarding JO, well I guess that's what happens when you try and get too greedy, and overvalue a player like Jermaine whose best days have been long gone, should've traded him when we had the chance.

Re: O'neal willing to sit out season to rehab knee
For years I've been saying trade Jermaine O'neal and all of you always thought I was crazy. Look at us now. We are in big trouble. Jermaine shouldve been traded immediately after Reggie retired or atleast sometime after that.

He should've been traded just after the Artest fiasco.

Re: O'neal willing to sit out season to rehab knee
He annoys me.. This just killed his value. Completely. Even though I saw this a week or two ago, it still makes me mad. Just when Larry was shopping him. He always does this. He like, ruins his value on purpose.

Painful, I'm afraid he doesn't have much value now. Bynum and picks for JO is looking pretty good about now!
