Mavericks How did you like Rick Carlisle ?

Now that he has officially been introduced as the new Dallas coach I would like to ask you guys a few questions:

1. How did you like his stint with the Pacers ?

2. Is he really stubborn or more open-minded than he came off during his tenure ?

3. Can you imagine him installing a fast paced offense ? I remember his Pacer teams always grinding it out and playing slow as mulasses which is why I'm having hard time associate his name with an up-tempo style.

Thank you

Re: How did you like Rick Carlisle ?

1. Good at first. I never liked how Tinsley wasn't given any freedom to run the offense, but we were winning, so I was fine with it. The constant JO and Artest isolations which you're going to see with Dirk and Howard are going to be annoying, and Kidd might not have much of a role in the offense. Anyway, it was working until the players just became tired of his stubborn, controlling, stagnant offense, and lost respect for him.

2. Stubborn.

3. Yeh. We were running during his last season here, just not that much. It was more than usual, though. He didn't like it, and his strategy of micromanaging to find the best shot just leaves teams with panicked shot-clock beating 3-pointers.

That sounds an awful lot like Avery Johnson, can't say I'm surprised though

I like Rick Carlisle, I just don't like his coaching style. It didn't suite our team at all. Hopefully it is different for Dallas.

Re: How did you like Rick Carlisle ?

-only knows 1 type of offense: slow grinding halfcourt offense = no changes when opponents know exactly what you are going to do

-stubborn: would not let bnech players try to bring in a spark even when stars are struggling

-cares too much about his own reputation than to try something revolutionary with the team--same old stuff every game every season

-did not know how to use the rotation well against teams that defended either the paint or the backcourt well

1. I loved his start, we won 61 games and went to ECF. He did a great job the next year with the brawl winning with what little he had. By the end however, the brawl had taken its effect and he seemed to have lost control of the players.

2. He seems like he could be stubborn, exspecially when it comes to play calling.

3. The last year he was here he said he was going to run, he tried for a while, but eventually it was back to the same old grind.

Again, thank you for your input. I really hope he is not the second coming of Avery, but there isn't much that leads me not to believe that.

Trust me Croco Rick is a much better coach that AJ, plus he knows how to win when it really matters which is the playoffs...It was a great move to get him, now all you guys need is an interior presence and you're all set!

Re: How did you like Rick Carlisle ?

well, i will say this about rick- i kind of feel like he got a pretty raw deal in that he had a talented team for a while (and was quite successful) but they were loaded with a bunch of immature hotheads and because of that, it fell apart. you give him a good team, and i think he will get you some good results.
the west is awfully tough so i don't know I'd go so far as to say they will win the title but, he is quality.
