We drafted Vonteego Cummings but we immediately traded him to Golden State for Jeff Foster. That is not a bad return on a late first-round pick. Travis Best is also pretty good seeing as he came at the end of the first round. What do you have against those two picks?

Indiana Pacers first round draft picks

2000 -- Primoz Brezec, Olimpija Ljubljana (Slovenia)

1998 -- Al Harrington, St. Patrick's High School (NJ)
1997 -- Austin Croshere, Providence
1996 -- Erick Dampier, Mississippi State
1991 -- Dale Davis, Clemson
1987 -- Reggie Miller, UCLA
Well well well, look who is back! Welcome back J_Fan!

As for the picks, Dampier was a real solid pick that we let go for easy, but if you remember correctly, Chris Mullin was sopposed to be a huge part of that team in 1999 and 2000. So, risking it was worth it in my opinion.

I don't know what the "laugh" means on Harrington, Davis or Reggie, i'll assume it's good.

And Croshere, even though he's a bust and not worth the money he gets, we have to realize, without him in 2000, we wouldn't have smelled the NBA Finals so he was worth it also. Also, he got hurt many times early in his career which effected his play. Didn't he miss like 2 years after being drafted with injuries?

Brezec was picked mostly on hype. I know teams don't always pick on hype, but Brezec was IMO. Although, i did see tape of him because i was in Europe the year we drafted him and they showed many highlights of Euros in the draft, and even before the draft i told a freind i wish we get Brezec. It didn't work out but it was also worth the try IMO.

I think the poor drafts is one major reason why Larry Bird is in charge now and not really Donnie Walsh.

You say some crazy thinks sometimes, although i think it's too early to say that now about Bender, but i do agree with you.

Not only is he a big bust so far, isn't helping us much but also, it cost us Antonio Davis. Could keeping Antonio Davis change the outcome of the 2000 NBA Finals? We will never know, but i can assure you he would have helped.

I agree Croshere hasn't lived up to his contract but I don't think he was a bust. He has been injured and lost alot of confidence when Thomas was the coach. Also, Donnie might have drafted a few players that have not worked out but he has made some great trades. He orchestrated trades to get Jermaine and Artest here. They are two of the most important players on the team now. Donnie has also done a masterful job of getting a good balance of young players and veterans to surround Reggie so after that Finals team broke up the team didn't go to the bottom of the league like other Eastern teams that were contenders in the East in the 90s like the Heat, Knicks, and Bulls. The Bulls are still trying to recover from when MJ and Phil left. The Pacers are lucky not to have had to go through that.

I am looking to see how Bird does in his first draft. I think he has a good eye for talent and will draft a player that will help the team.

I don't know about Haskin, but the only really bad pick we've made since 1990 was Primoz Brezec.

When we traded Cummings for Foster, we also gave away our first rounder the next year in which the warriors took Troy Murphey #14

2000 -- Primoz Brezec, Olimpija Ljubljana (Slovenia) Bad 1999 -- Vonteego Cummings, Pittsburgh Bad
1998 -- Al Harrington, St. Patrick's High School (NJ) Good
1997 -- Austin Croshere, Providence Good (If you saw his Dallas game you'd know what i'm talking about)
1996 -- Erick Dampier, Mississippi State Good, but why'd we have to trade him away?
1995 -- Travis Best, Georgia Tech Somewhat good
1994 -- Eric Piatkowski, Nebraska Decent
1993 -- Scott Haskin, Oregon State Who the hell?
1992 -- Malik Sealy, St. John's Good, but he died
1991 -- Dale Davis, Clemson Good
1989 -- George McCloud, Very good
1988 -- Rik Smits, Marist Very good
1987 -- Reggie Miller, UCLA Very good
1986 -- Chuck Person, Auburn Very good (Look at this stretch of amazing players we drafted, 86-91)
1985 -- Wayman Tisdale, Oklahoma Good
1984 -- Vern Fleming, Georgia Very Good
1983 -- Steve Stipanovich, Missouri Who the hell?
Mitchell Wiggins, Florida State Who the hell?
1982 -- Clark Kellogg, Ohio State Good
1981 -- Herb Williams, Ohio State Good
1979 -- Dudley Bradley, North Carolina I think i remember him but i don't really know
1978 -- Rick Robey, Kentucky Who the hell?
1975 -- Dan Roundfield, Central Michigan Who the hell?
1974 -- Billy Knight, Pittsburgh Who the hell?
1973 -- Steve Downing, Indiana Who the hell?
Mike Green, Louisiana Tech Who the hell?
1972 -- George McGinnis, Indiana Godly
1970 -- Rick Mount, Purdue Who the hell?
1968 -- Don May, Dayton Who the hell?
1967 -- Jimmy Walker, Providence Who the hell?

Besides a few 'who the hells" and the guy i could beat 1-on-1 Primoz Brezec i think we've had one of the better draft histories in the league
