australian teams at the olympics

i believe our men's team can win a minor medal while our women's team is a very good gold medal chance, especially if the coaching staff sets up plays for penny taylor as well as lauren. that in my opinion was were we fell down 4 years ago, when lauren was double teamed, the guards still passed in to her, expecting miracles. penny could have led us to the gold medal game, as she has proven since at the world champs and the wnba final.

they will finish 2nd or third in their group, cross over with a win over the other group's 2nd or third, thus making the semi's [is that how the tourney works?]

we are not making up the numbers
we would have beaten lithuania at a previous olympics and made the semis if only longley had given up the money and chosen to play at those olympics instead. he would have matched up well with sabonis and freed bradtke to play power forward.

our talent at these upcoming games is only bettered by the USA, imo!

do you want my run down on our players?

Seriously ? Let's just say ... no.

Quote:
David Andersen / Forward/Centre / 212cm
Chris Anstey / Centre / 213cm
David Barlow / Guard/Forward / 205cm
Andrew Bogut / Centre / 213cm
CJ Bruton / Guard / 188cm
Joe Ingles / Guard / 203cm
Patrick Mills / Guard / 181cm
Brad Newley / Guard / 198cm
Matthew Nielsen / Forward / 209cm
Shawn Redhage / Forward / 202cm
Glen Saville / Guard/Forward / 197cm
Mark Worthington / Forward / 202cm
I mean that is not a bad team, but they could easily finish fourth or fifth in their group. Why do you bring up Longley anyway ? Detlef Schrempf isn't playing for Germany either, that was a looong time ago.

Yeah, tip off is in around 3 hours and 40 minutes. I will get you updated through the stickied thread in this forum if you like.

As for the Australian teams;

Men... Don't have a shot, not because they are bad. Teams in this year's competition are just superior. Dependant on the group they get, they may do ok aslong as fixtures are good to them.

Women... Now here you do have a shot, I agree you were unlucky last time around. Now I really am no expert on the women's game so I wont be giving any analysis ....

Ahh why thankyou Sir.

Looking over the groups Australia will be duking it out in that mix. They definately got the group they had more chance in. I don't think they will do it but by gosh that Group A should be exciting, especially with it not having a clear favourite.

That group B is BADASS!

EDIT - Ginobili just been confirmed as on the Argentine team. We now have our favourites

longley at a previous olympics chose to sit out so he could rest a niggling injury to get a contract extension of millions of dollars. then our tv network covering the games employed him as a colour commentator. for me, that rubbed our patriotic faces in the fact this grub cared more for money than aussie representation. we played lithuania and were beaten as bradtke had to post up sabonis.

our current squad is awesome, mills and bruton can match any point guards outside of the US team, we have a 205cm 3 pt specialist in barlow, and a deep front line in bogut, andersen, and anstey.

all this with great back up. even the guys that missed the cut could match up well with european opposition!
