Recap: MLS youngsters spark US draw with Mexico
![]() Shea, Rogers connect to lead Americans back from early deficit PHILADELPHIA – A second-half spark from a trio of Major League Soccer youngsters saved the debut of new US head coach Jurgen Klinsmann, as the Americans rallied from an early deficit to earn a 1-1 draw against continental rival Mexico in an international friendly at Lincoln Financial Field. Columbus Crew midfielder Robbie Rogers scored the equalizer just a minute after his substitution into the game and FC Dallas winger Brek Shea picked up the assist not long after he replaced Jermaine Jones, helping erase a brilliant strike from Mexico’s Oribe Peralta in the 17th minute. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/articl...us-draw-mexico |

Re: INTERNATIONAL FRIENDLIES
Finishing Well
Buddle, Dempsey, Altidore score as US defeat Slovenia in 2011 finale ![]() Revenge of a sort gave the US national team a win in their final match of 2011. Edson Buddle, Clint Dempsey and Jozy Altidore each scored in the first half as the United States defeated Slovenia, 3-2, on a foggy night at Stožice Stadium in Ljubljana on Tuesday. The two teams tied 2-2 under controversial circumstances during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where the US were denied a seemingly good late winner. ![]() The Americans' trio of goals on this night were one more than their previous total in six games under the guidance of Jurgen Klinsmann. The win marked Klinsmann’s second victory in charge, taking his record as US manager to 2-4-1 in the final international match scheduled for 2011. http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter...a-vs-usa/recap Last edited by BigE; 11-15-2011 at 06:16 PM. |

Re: INTERNATIONAL FRIENDLIES
Stone-Cold Stunner
Dempsey scores as US notch a huge upset win over Italy ![]() The US national team produced their first-ever win against Italy thanks to Clint Dempsey’s second-half strike in a 1-0 win at Stadio Luigi Ferraris in Genoa on Wednesday. The pivotal moment came in the 55th minute when Fabian Johnson whipped in a teasing ball that Jozy Altidore laid off superbly for the on-rushing Dempsey, who drilled his shot hard and low past the despairing dive of Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon. The win marks the first time the US have defeated Italy in 11 attempts since the nations first met 82 years ago. It also marks the first time Italy have lost in Genoa since 1924. http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter...ta-v-usa/recap http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCW61...ature=youtu.be |

Re: INTERNATIONAL FRIENDLIES
Here? Just a friendly
In Italy? A fiasco ![]() Here in the US we're fed a steady diet of "don't get too worked up about friendly wins." And it's sound advice that goes all the way back to the 3-6-1 thrashing of Austria in the lead-up to the 1998 World Cup. In Italy, though, they are a bit more... passionate. Or uncompromising. Or irrational. However you want to put it, the Italian press is, in the wake of the US' 1-0 win over the Azzuri on Wednesday, showing the fight and engagement that both the players and fans in Genoa clearly lacked (the crowd, I think we can all agree, was terrible). La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian soccer bible, called the US win "A fiasco." And it gets more colorful from there. http://www.mlssoccer.com/blog/post/2...y-italy-fiasco |
