Because people were getting an "unfair" advantage by benching elite players in order to take advantage of the system and getting high picks with teams that should have been already.

Are you really trying to compare changing the in-game rules to getting rid of something that no longer has a real purpose other than being a fun little thing to do at the end of the season. There is no reason a team that is forced to play their best lineup and ends up with the worst record should not get the #1 pick, and a team that barely missed the playoffs should have a shot a the best player in the draft.

Tanking has been normalized back to where it should be. This is more realistic and since the lottery is a real life thing, it makes sense to keep the lottery.
