KVBL's Mount Rushmores
I was thinking about this when I was looking at some of the Sharks' history earlier. The reason it's here and not in Media is due to it not really being an article (yet, at least); it's more a discussion topic. These are, of course, just for amusement purposes, but perhaps there'll be some interesting chatter that comes out of it. I've done a quick one to four players for each team, but I trust that many of you will have different takes on who belongs and that's fine. I tried to stay away from guys who've only played for the team for a season or two, but there are definitely guys who will probably make the list if they stick around on their team for a while (like DJ Alexander in LA). Longevity and impact probably the best things to consider. Debate on these is a good thing (although some guys should be obvious).
Philadelphia 76ers: Detlef Landros Boston Celtics: Alistair Maynard, John Wall, Xerxes Khoroushi Miami Heat: Gerrod Clifton, Bart Higgins, Malcolm Xavier, Skyler McLean New York Knicks: Jens Larsson, Andrew Bynum, Matt Kwietak, Lance Prince Orlando Magic: Zach Tyler Brooklyn Nets: Mancin Tulker Washington Bullets: James Russell, Ben Cashman Milwaukee Bucks: Greg Hope, Shawn Mack Chicago Bulls: Phil Scates, Kenny Bradford, Chris Walker Cleveland Cavaliers: Travere Bernard, Barry Wagner Atlanta Hawks: Caramel Love, Frank Weiland New Orleans Hornets: Victor Osborne, Teddy Moss III, Marvin Gordon Detroit Pistons: Eric Rogers, Roderick Phillips London Raptors: Ricky Briscoe, Young Hi Memphis Grizzlies: Duke Lazear, Glenn Jennings, Phillip Vasquez, Frank Daniels Utah Jazz: Travis Perry, Ivanos Rogic, Ray Lee, Drew Montgomery Oklahoma City Thunder: Aeneas Bailey, Alistair Maynard Denver Nuggets: Logan Heastie, Carlos Junarvo, Reggie Wright Houston Rockets: Dwight Howard, LeBron James San Antonio Spurs: Tony Spence, Omar Andrews, Mikel Opoku Las Vegas(/Minnesota) Timberwolves: Alistair Maynard, Kong Randolph, Rafa Salvadores Portland Trail Blazers: Walker Gilchrist, Cameron Clothier, Allan Fisher Los Angeles Clippers: Robert Goodhue, Jens Larsson Los Angeles Lakers: Aleksandr Matechowski, Forest Katz, Javier Garcia Seattle SuperSonics: Freddy Childs, Walker Gilchrist, Marakov Moncova Phoenix Suns: Jericho Gyllenhaal? St. Louis Warriors (too early for Kings, of course): Dre Byers, Jaxon Blake Vancouver Lions: Chip Fookes, Shaun Jacobs Québec Sharks: Kevin Stewart, Trevor Gordon, Gerald Sidell The importance of championships could be a big factor with some teams. Does Tony Spence crack the Hawks' group? Does LeBron get in there with the Grizz despite his brief stay? Should John Wall join Landros in Philly's batch? It'd be great if each team could give their thoughts on which guys they think deserve it on their team. If people are interested enough we could even do a nomination group and then do some polls. Might be too much work for something meaningless, but that's what I do. Have at it, folks. |

Re: KVBL's Mount Rushmores
The other problem with some teams is having a lot of guys who were there for three or four seasons each with very similar level of impact. Very much a preferential type thing. It's tricky.
I don't think anybody could come up with a better option for the Jazz than the four I listed above. Maybe make a case for Fantastigas as the embodiment of the three point bombing era, or Rick Damen as one of those fan loved guys who was a solid contributor for a long time. I think those two are at least a step below the other four, though. EDIT: Oh, and these are all meant to be 3.0 only, of course. |

LA Clippers - For better or probably worse - Andre Cannon, Jens Larsson, Robert Goodhue
Otherwise, I don't keep players long. Hopefully, DJ can survive my itchy trigger finger. He is Andre Cannon 2.0, the improved version.

Re: KVBL's Mount Rushmores
I think for the time being, the Spurs heads are correct. Good idea as usual KJ.

Lions list looks good to me. Jackson Smith was with me a pretty long time but he was pretty low key. He might've had a stronger case if he didn't get hit with the ratings changer and I didn't acquire Hastings (limiting his minutes).

On second thought, looking at some guys who made it on other teams maybe Smith should be on the list.

Re: KVBL's Mount Rushmores
Bucks should probably also have Zvonko and maybe Lou Williams (
)Denver should also have Luis Ortiz

Re: KVBL's Mount Rushmores
I'd forgotten about Jackson Smith, he probably deserves consideration and might even be in the top four at this juncture. Zvonko bounced around so much that it was hard for me to attach him to any one team, at least based on just 3.0.
There's a lot of guys like that, Zvonkoish. Great or very good players with multiple homes for two to four seasons each. I originally was going to pick four for each team, but I was having trouble already with Philly picking guys due to that and wanted there to be some discussion on it before I dropped guys in that might be a bit iffy. I stuck mostly with one or two on some teams just because it was easier than looking up all the good to great guys who played there who had a shot. I think Javier Garcia could join the Bullets big two, probably have Eddy Sweet up for consideration in Milwaukee. Lots of guys who've been around whose impact is hard for me to remember (especially when JSB only lists the final team for each season's stats, so I lose track of who was where for how much of a season if they ended up traded - Matechowski's last season shows up as the Jazz, for example, despite never having played there). Owners are probably best at remembering their key lineups and who were the big contributors, or at least well enough to throw out some names and have me check in on their stats. |

Re: KVBL's Mount Rushmores
Ha, that's not quite what I was doing but it'll work. The idea is that every team would have four guys right now. Would those four guys be the guys in, say, three more seasons? Definitely yes in some cases (Landros in Philly is a lock for life), but in other cases there'd be a shuffling of players that'd go down.
I'm most sure about the Jazz, of course, but I have a good idea about the sets of four (or reasonable ones, at the very least) for a lot of teams. Teams like the Suns, Rockets, and Clippers are difficult to do for me. I think Derrick Rose would probably get added to Houston's list, but I'd have to dig to find somebody else for them. Phoenix changes up its roster a lot, same for the Clips. |
